July is here and as we begin our tenth year of service with the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society (American Baptist International Ministries), we are setting targets and goals for this new chapter! A dear MPTer shared the symbol we now share with you as a reminder of where we’re headed… We can only reach our targets and goals through the Cross of Jesus Christ!

We are headed to our 2009 MPT/N visits in the northeastern part of the States from July 16 to Sept. 30. We will be in PA, OH, IN, NY, CT, RI, and NJ; more than fifty churches where we will be able to share—as we have these first four months in Puerto Rico: how we completed our time in Chile and how we can prepare together for our new assignment in Spain. We are excited and energized by the hearty responses from so many that are opening their places to have us. Check our website for details on our schedule, as they become available.

We are headed to a trip in the midst of a transition that has been quite a challenge. We have received emails with comments like these:

“I spoke with (…) and (…) explained in great detail the change in funding of missionaries this year. Yikes! That is truly an act of faith.” (a friend in Ohio)

“I was delighted to hear from you and understand in part the hectic time of getting prepared for your next assignment. It is never easy to move from one place here in the states and I only can imagine what it takes to move into another culture and start some new beginnings. God has blessed you in the past and He certainly will smooth the path and way for the Spain assignment.” (a friend in Ohio)

“Many prayers are being sent your way today and everyday.” (a friend in Indiana)

“I wish you didn't have to work so hard to cover your own expenses. You really have to be in the business of selling your work in Spain and helping everyone understand exactly what you will be doing there. My prayers are with you as you take on this mission.” (a friend in New York)

“They (the church) really do have a heart for missions and they are incredibly faithful in prayer. … There is a great spirit of anticipation that our Father is going to send a revival, healing past wounds and bringing in new believers. It is very exciting and we would appreciate your prayers, even as we pray for you.” (a friend in New Jersey)

It is true that our mission society needs to receive gifts and pledges of support for our next assignment before September 30 to plan and prepare for our relocation to Spain in 2010 to serve immigrants in that neck of the woods. It is also true that we continue to live by faith and by those daily prayers of yours. We continue to trust the Lord for our provision and that of our 110 colleagues and that of missionaries in other mission agencies serving Him around the world. He has always provided; this is His business! He is faithful and generous! We continue to plan for our time in Spain with our experience in Chile in mind. This is where true partnership in mission comes in place! It is about you and us together for Him. We plan and prepare; we set targets and goals:

1. To share with as many of you the fire and passion we have in our hearts for Jesus and His mission, in person where possible and through our journals when we cannot see face-to-face.

2. To provide a place of connection for each of you in missions, from your hometown to the place in the world where the Lord leads you.

3. To seek ways from the Lord that He will have us share His gospel of salvation, love, peace, and justice with the immigrants we will serve in Spain; seek ways in which He wants us to prepare the lay leadership in the churches of the Baptist Evangelical Union of Spain; and, seek ways to prepare the appropriate Christian Education curriculum materials that are needed based on the audience that is to use them.

We are encouraged as we see how the Lord is providing, even when the numbers are not yet in the 100% (we live and move by faith!). We trust He will complete the work in us that He begun (we know His faithfulness!). When the media attention has been drawn to public figures that have died, or governments that are in turmoil, our attention is to discern what the Lord wants us to do each day, where He wants us to go, who He wants us to speak to, what He wants us to tell them. Joshua and Caleb saw the same giants that the other 10 Israelites saw in the Promised Land, but they saw beyond the giants to the God who had promised them that land. God is a God of impossibles, and a God of abundant love and compassion.

His love and compassion moves us to Spain as it moved us to Chile. His love and compassion empowers us to be His servants where He takes us, despite our flaws and limitations. His love and compassion urges us to press toward the goal and the target, like Paul. How is His love and compassion moving, empowering, and urging you in your targets and goals today?

Julio ha llegado y al comenzar nuestro décimo año de servicio y sacrificio con la Sociedad Bautista Americana para Misión en el Extranjero (Ministerios Internacionales IBA), ¡nos proponemos metas y objetivos para este nuevo capítulo! Una persona de nuestro MPT compartió el símbolo que les incluimos como un recordatorio de hacia donde nos encaminamos… Sólo podremos lograr nuestras metas y objetivos ¡a través de la Cruz de Jesucristo!

Nos encaminamos a las visitas al MPT/N 2009 en el noreste de EE.UU. de Julio 16 a Sept. 30. Estaremos en PA, OH, IN, NY, CT, RI y NJ; más de cincuenta iglesias donde podremos compartir—como lo hemos hecho estos cuatro meses en Puerto Rico: cómo completamos nuestro tiempo en Chile y cómo nos preparamos en unidad para nuestra nueva asignación en España. Estamos animados y emocionados por las respuestas recibidas de tantas personas que nos estarán recibiendo. Nos encaminamos a un viaje en medio de una transición que ha sido muy desafiante. Hemos recibido emails con comentarios como estos:

“Hablé con (…) quien me explicó en gran detalle los cambios de este año en el sistema de apoyo a los misioneros. Wow! Eso sí es un acto de fe.” (desde Ohio)

“Me encanta recibir sus noticias y entender en parte el tiempo de ajustes de prepararse para una nueva asignación. Nunca es fácil moverse dentro de EE.UU. y sólo puedo imaginarme lo que conlleva moverse a otra cultura con tantos nuevos comienzos. Dios les ha bendecido en el pasado y El allanará el camino y su sendero para la asignación en España.” (desde Ohio)

“Muchas oraciones están siendo elevadas por ustedes hoy y cada día.” (desde Indiana)

“Me gustaría que ustedes no tuvieran que trabajar tanto para cubrir sus propios gastos. Realmente tienen que estar en el negocio de vender su trabajo en España y ayudarnos a entender exactamente lo que estarán haciendo allá. Mis oraciones con ustedes al afrontar esta nueva misión.” (desde New York)

“Ellos (la iglesia) realmente tienen un corazón misionero y son muy fieles en la oración. … Hay un gran espíritu de expectativa de que el Padre enviará un avivamiento, sanará las heridas del pasado y traerá nuevos/as creyentes. Es muy emocionante y apreciaríamos sus oraciones, así como nosotros oramos por ustedes.” (desde New Jersey)

Es cierto que nuestros colegas en la oficina necesitan recibir sus compromisos de apoyo para nuestra siguiente asignación antes del 30 de septiembre para planificar nuestra relocalización a España en el 2010 a servir inmigrantes en esos lados del mundo. También es cierto que seguimos viviendo por fe y por sus oraciones diarias. Seguimos confiando en la provisión del Señor para cada uno de nuestros 110 colegas y para colegas en otras agencias misioneras sirviéndole a El alrededor del mundo. El siempre ha provisto; ¡éste es Su negocio! ¡El es fiel y generoso! Seguimos planificando nuestro tiempo en España con nuestra experiencia en Chile en mente. Ahí yace la verdadera coparticipación misionera. Es ustedes y nosotros en unidad por El. Planificamos y nos preparamos; nos proponemos metas y objetivos:

1. Compartir el fuego y pasión que hay en nuestros corazones por Jesucristo y Su misión; en persona cuando es posible y con estas cartas cuando no lo es.

2. Proveer un espacio de conexión para cada persona con las misiones, desde su lugar de origen hasta el lugar del mundo donde El indique.

3. Procurar cómo el Señor quiere que compartamos Su evangelio de salvación, amor, paz y justicia con los inmigrantes que conoceremos en España; procurar las formas cómo El quiere que preparemos el liderato laico de las iglesias de la Unión Evangélica Bautista de España; y, procurar cómo preparar los materiales curriculares de Educación Cristiana apropiados para el público que los va a usar.

Nos anima ver cómo el Señor está proveyendo, aun cuando los números todavía no llegan al 100% (¡vivimos y nos movemos por fe!). Confiamos que El completará Su buena obra en nosotros (¡conocemos Su fidelidad!). Cuando la atención de las noticias se concentra en inundarnos con las muertes de figuras conocidas o gobiernos en desorden, nuestra atención se concentra en discernir qué el Señor quiere que hagamos cada día, dónde quiere que vayamos, con quién quiere que hablemos, qué quiere que le digamos. Josué y Caleb vieron los mismos gigantes que los otros 10 israelitas vieron en la Tierra Prometida, pero ellos vieron más allá de los gigantes al Dios que les había prometido la tierra. Dios es un Dios de imposibles, y un Dios de compasión y gracia infinitas.

Su compasión y gracia nos mueve a España como nos movió a Chile. Su compasión y gracia nos capacita para ser Sus siervos donde nos envíe, a pesar de nuestras faltas y limitaciones. Su compasión y gracia nos insta a proseguir al blanco, a las metas y los objetivos, como Pablo. ¿Cómo les está moviendo, capacitando e instando Su compasión y gracia en sus metas y objetivos hoy?

A sólo semanas de estar con ustedes… Mientras, envíennos su número de teléfono o celular por si necesitamos llamarles desde la carretera. Como desconocemos qué acceso a internet tendremos durante el viaje, puede que no lean de nosotros por un tiempo. Sus oraciones diarias, su amor y su apoyo económico seguirán siendo apreciados en este periodo de transición.
