New Winds/Nuevos Vientos
A new year has arrived with new hopes, new challenges, new adventures, and new ministry opportunities. After a wonderful holiday season that began with Thanksgiving and continued into Christmas and New Year’s, we continue preparations for our relocation to Spain this Spring 2010.
Visiting the churches this US/PR assignment, since we arrived in March, has given us a great deal of comfort as we have seen God at work and surprising us in many places and in many ways. God has deepened in our hearts the meaning of Joshua 1:9.
In New York, we saw these windmills. Modern day windmills, alright, but Don Quixote’s windmills weren’t that different after all. We will encounter windmills in Spain. We have encountered windmills this year as we have been from place to place, trusting the Lord to provide our needs, and focusing on our task to be encouragers of our brothers and sisters in so many different churches. Almost 70 churches in the States and Puerto Rico! All have shared of their commitment to the Lord, their love for His mission, and their support to His missionaries. They have also shared from their hearts as they too struggle in these difficult times in which we live. Again He reminds us all: “I've commanded you to be strong and brave. Don't ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the LORD your God, and I will be there to help you wherever you go.” (Contemporary English Version)
God shall help us relocate in Spain to serve, alongside the Spanish Evangelical Baptist Union, the Migrants that are coming to their churches, in Preparing Christian Education curriculum materials, and Training the lay leadership in their local churches. We know God will strengthen us through our MPT and you, our Network friends, as you continue providing the ongoing support needed through prayers, encouragement, and financial gifts that undergird these ministries.
December was a month of joyous celebration of His birth. January is a reminder that “new winds” are blowing in preparation for our move to Spain. As we wait for our entry visas, we take time to pause, meditate, recharge our batteries, enjoy being in our home church and with our family, and continue sharing (though in more informal ways) of what we have experienced and what we foresee to be coming up next. Your continued prayers during this transition phase are appreciated, for every little detail that is still to be cared for.
Hard to tell when we will actually be in Spain, but one thing we know…

Ha comenzado un nuevo año con nuevas esperanzas, desafíos, aventuras y oportunidades de ministerio. Tras una hermosa temporada festiva que comenzó con Acción de Gracias, continuó con Navidad, Año Nuevo y Reyes y concluye con las octavitas, nos preparamos para recibir “nuevos vientos” en la primavera del 2010.
Visitar iglesias durante la asignación a EE.UU./Puerto Rico, desde que llegamos en marzo pasado, nos ha animado al ver la mano de Dios en acción y sorprendiéndonos en diferentes lugares y formas. Dios ha sellado en nuestros corazones el significado de Josué 1:9.
En Nueva York, vimos estos molinos. Son modernos, sí, pero los molinos de Don Quijote no eran muy diferentes a estos, después de todo… Hemos en-frentado molinos este año al ir de lugar en lugar, al depender del Señor y Su provisión de nuestras necesidades y al enfocarnos en nuestra tarea de animar y desafiar a hermanos y hermanas en tantas iglesias. ¡Casi 70 iglesias en EE.UU. y Puerto Rico! Todas han compartido su compromiso con el Señor, su amor por Sus misión y su apoyo a cada misionero y cada misionera. También han compartido sus propios desafíos y peticiones de oración en los tiempos complicados que vivimos. Nuevamente Él nos recuerda: “Ya te lo he ordenado: ¡Sé fuerte y valiente! ¡No tengas miedo ni te desanimes! Porque el Señor tu Dios te acompañará dondequiera que vayas.” (Nueva Versión Internacional)
Dios nos acompañará en España donde serviremos, junto a la Unión Evangélica Bautista Española, en Ministerios entre migrantes que están llegando a sus iglesias, Preparando materiales curriculares de Educación Cristiana y con Talleres de preparación al liderato en las iglesias. Sabemos que Dios nos fortalecerá a través del MPT y ustedes, nuestra red de amor, al seguir ofreciéndonos el apoyo contínuo necesario a través con sus oraciones, estímulo y sostén económico que facilitan estos ministerios.
Diciembre fue un mes de celebraciones gozosas del nacimiento de Jesús. Enero nos alerta de los “nuevos vientos” que soplan en preparación para nuestra mudanza. Mientras esperamos por las visas de entrada a España, pausamos, meditamos, recargamos baterías, disfrutamos estar “en casa”, en familia y en nuestra iglesia, y seguimos compartiendo (en encuentros informales) lo que hemos vivido y lo que anticipamos se avecina. Sus oraciones contínuas en este proceso de transición siempre son muy apreciadas; siempre quedan detalles por coordinar.
Difícil precisar cuánto más durará este período de espera y transición, pero algo sí sabemos…
“Ya te lo he ordenado: ¡Sé fuerte y valiente!
¡No tengas miedo ni te desanimes!
Porque el Señor tu Dios te acompañará dondequiera que vayas.”
