American Baptists have poured their hearts into relieving the need and suffering in Haiti following the earthquake there; but they are certainly not the only ones giving of themselves.  A number of International Ministries partners have also reached out to lend their aid.

The Baptist Seminary of Mexico generously gave $1,000 to Haiti relief efforts recently.  The seminary opened its doors in 1947 but American Baptists had been involved in Mexico since 1870 through the work of Rev. Tomás Westrup.  In a letter to their Haitian brothers and sisters in faith, the seminary wrote, “We hope that through International Ministries they <Haitians> will receive our words of solidarity and our commitment to prayer and service so that our Lord may accompany them through consolation, encouragement and hope to continue moving forward.”

In El Salvador, the Primera Iglesia Bautista de San Salvador donated $200 and the Baptist Missionary and Educational Institution of El Salvador (IMEBES) gave $5,000 towards earthquake relief.  IMEBES grew out of the Colegio Bautista which was founded in 1924 by Baptist missionaries.

On the other side of the globe, the Kwun Tong Swatow Baptist Church in Hong Kong sent $4,800 to IM for the relief efforts.  Formed in 1973, Kwun Tong Swatow Baptist supports missionaries in Mainland China, Vietnam and Australia.

Finally, the Angami Baptist Church Council, part of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, IM's partner in Nagaland for over 100 years, pledged $8,744 in support of Haiti earthquake relief at their recent conference entitled, "125 Years Celebration of the Gospel Reaching Angami Naga."

Baptists around the world continue to be moved by the spirit and are seeking ways to minister to those in need.   Now more than ever, earthquake victims in both Haiti and now Chile need our prayers and support.
