July is our ministry anniversary month with the ABFMS, our tenth! As we are still processing our relocation to Spain, we invite you to meet closer with two of our MPTers: Mark and Lee. Mark Sorrels, pastor at Hayden Baptist Church, Indiana and our ABC-IN/KY Advocate writes:

“Serving as a BGs MPTer has been an experience that has enriched my life. I have been able to strengthen bonds and create new ones in the ABC family of IN/KY. It has helped me understand the need for introducing our people to our ABC work and missionaries. As an MPTer, I have had the opportunity to visit dozens of churches and encourage them to continue moving forward in their mission involvement and support. I believe that elevating ABC-IN/KY's awareness of the work of the BGs has helped to strengthen their ABC identity.
  Being involved with Carlos and Mayra and their children (since 2008) has also been a great blessing to the church I serve. The personal contact with them has allowed our people to become more consistent and passionate about supporting missions. Our people now have names and faces to accompany their prayers. They remember voices and stories from the times the BGs have been with them. They now also more greatly understand some of the struggles of our missionaries. Our people now not only financially give more to missions, but they are more broadly involved in our local efforts. Being involved with the BGs has also given new life to our ABY. I witnessed some of the drama ministry which Carlos and Mayra introduced to some churches in Chile, I returned to the U.S. and started something similar. Our youth group was near death, but the introduction of the drama ministry ignited new interest. Our ABY is now healthy and has almost tripled in attendance! (Contact Mark at marksorrels@yahoo.com)

Lee Riggs, former pastor at FBC Greensburg, Indiana, retired in South Carolina, and our Church Relations Advocate writes:

“Our trips to Chile were a life changing experience for me, my family, and many members of FBC Greensburg. Discovering God's call to be involved in ongoing missions re-energized our church and my own ministry. With this experience came the formation of a sister church relationship and our partnership with our American Baptist missionaries. From our third trip onward (2003), the BGs were our missionary hosts and partners in all that we did-envisioning and planning, traveling and ministering to others, even as we were ministered to by those we came to serve.
  The BGs and the Bolicks became the 'face of Chile' to those in our church who were not able to participate in our mission trips. Through their journals and personal visits to the church, they shared the story of their own work interwoven with the stories of the work and ministry of our Chilean brothers and sisters in Christ. One unique aspect of this family's witness has been their emphasis on the family, exemplified by their commitment to travel as a family. It has raised our own awareness of the 'missionary family' and the role and importance of our MKs (missionary kids).
  Now an exciting new aspect of our partnership unfolds as the BGs accept God's call to a new place of ministry in Spain. What new thing does God have in store for them? What a blessing they will be to the churches with which they will be ministering! “Servir en el MPT de los BGs ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora. He podido fortalecer lazos y crear nuevos en la familia ABC de IN/KY. Puedo entender la necesidad de hacer partícipes a nuestras Iglesias de la obra y cuerpo misionero ABC. Como MPTer, he visitado docenas de Iglesias para alentarles a continuar en su participación y apoyo a las misiones. Creo que aumentar la conciencia del trabajo de los BGs entre las Iglesias ABC de IN/KY ha ayudado a fortalecer su identidad.
  Ser parte de la familia de Carlos, Mayra y sus hijos (desde 2008) ha sido una enorme bendición para la iglesia donde sirvo. El contacto personal con ellos ha permitido que nuestra gente sea más consistente y apasionada acerca de su apoyo misionero. Nuestra feligresía ahora tiene nombres y rostros que acompañan sus oraciones. Recuerdan voces e historias de las veces que los BGs han estado con ellos. También entienden mejor los desafíos de la vida misionera. No solamente apoyan económicamente las misiones, sino que están abocados a esfuerzos misioneros locales. Tenemos nueva vida en la unión de jóvenes. Presencié algo de los ministerios de drama que Carlos y Mayra compartieron con algunas Iglesias en Chile y al regresar a EE.UU. comencé algo similar. Nuestro grupo de jóvenes estaba casi muerto pero a través de este ministerio se reavivó su interés. ¡Ahora nuestra unión de jóvenes casi se triplica en membrecía! Lee Riggs, pastor retirado de PIB Greensburg, Indiana, ahora en Carolina del Sur, y nuestro Enlace para Relaciones con las Iglesias escribe:

“Nuestros viajes a Chile cambiaron mi vida, la de mi familia y la de muchas personas en la PIB Greensburg. Descubrir el llamado de Dios para ser partícipes constantes en misiones reavivó nuestra iglesia y mi ministerio. Con esta experiencia vino una relación de iglesia hermana y nuestra coparticipación con misioneros bautistas americanos. Desde nuestro tercer viaje en adelante (2003), los BGs fueron nuestros misioneros anfitriones y socios en todo lo que hicimos—visión y planificación, viajando y ministrando a otros, incluyendo que fuéramos ministrados por quienes íbamos a servir.
  Los BGs y los Bolick se convirtieron en la 'cara de Chile' para quienes no podían ir en los viajes misioneros. A través de sus cartas y visitas a nuestra iglesia, compartieron las historias de su ministerio entrelazadas con las historias del trabajo y ministerio de hermanos y hermanas en Cristo de Chile. Algo particular del testimonio de esta familia ha sido su énfasis en la familia, demostrado en su compromiso de viajar como familia. Ha alimentado nuestra conciencia de la ‘familia misionera’ y del importante rol de nuestros MKs (hijos/as de misioneros/as).
  Ahora comienza otra etapa emocionante de nuestra relación pues los BGs han aceptado el llamado de Dios a ministrar en España. ¿Qué novedades tiene Dios para ellos? ¡Qué bendición serán para las Iglesias con las que ministren!
