Projeto Conquista students
We’ve tied up the loose ends on our various projects, we’ve made all the arrangements for Asa to stay with friends, and our passports and immunizations are in order – the only thing left is to pack up before we leave later this evening for Haiti. There’s a lot of good news to share: not only about the trip, but about all that God did in and through us during the months of August and September.
Missão Integral – we taught our intensive module on holistic (or integral) mission for JAMI’s cross-cultural missionary training program at the end of July. Once again, it was an eye-opener for the students to see the mission of God in this light. The final assignment is to write up a 10-20 page proposal for a holistic mission project, and we help them through many (!) revisions.
CETRAMI “graduation” – the cross-cultural missionary training program ended on August 7 with an evening of song, reflections and celebration. The 10 students are now preparing for internships and future service in Peru, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Albania, East Timor, and here in Brazil.
Mission conferences and preaching – we presented mission messages and workshops at Igreja Batista Nova Canaã and IB Fonte de Vida here in Belo Horizonte, and at IB Nova Vida in Piracicaba, São Paulo. God’s people are on the move!
Vida Missionária – JAMI has started a new training program for church planters and evangelists called Projeto Conquista, and last week we taught our module on The Missionary Life. The 23 students (including 6 from Mozambique, Peru, and Guinea Bissau) were blessed by the material we presented on spiritual journeys and how to maintain healthy relationships with God, colleagues, family members and supporting churches.
Igreja Batista Reviver – at our home church we continue to coordinate the youth/young adult program, lead the Mission Mobilizer’s Team (getting ready for a mission conference at the end of November), teach English through the church’s community school, and coordinate the Christian education program (last Sunday the church ran out of chairs and classroom space: great problem!)
Visit to Haiti – American Baptists have contributed generously to Haiti relief and development after January’s earthquake in Port-au-Prince. As some gifts will go toward grants for economic and agricultural development, IM has asked us to lead a team of missionaries to advise the Baptist Convention of Haiti and IM on these projects. We have been working hard to gather information and prepare recommendations leading up to our time in Haiti, where we'll meet with Convention leadership and non-governmental organizations working there.
