Turning the Tables

"For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves." Jesus in Luke 22:27

For the past three weeks our family has worked on a joint art project that has turned an old table into a bright new addition to our kitchen. It might not have taken so long had we not been interrupted by life and work, but through the process we learned a number of good lessons. We learned to be resourceful and look for treasures in unexpected places. As we were deciding on the design, we learned to listen to each other and to value the input of everyone. We learned to be prepared, especially when we ran out of what we needed to complete the project. We learned of redemption and how God takes the seemingly broken and useless pieces of our lives and skillfully puts them together into something beautiful and beyond value. For about $7 we turned an old ugly table into something we all feel proud of. We hope to use the table to offer hospitality and love to those who join us there.
