El martes 15 tuvimos un apagón voluntario en España, el 7mo país europeo con mayor vulnerabilidad económica y 20,33% de desempleo, en respuesta a la subida de las tarifas eléctricas. En España muchas personas tienen que manejar su mes con menos o apenas el sueldo mínimo (748 Euros = US$1,010 mes), a pesar del desproporcionado alza en los costos de vida, los arriendos, los servicios básicos, la transportación, la comida y todo lo que se compra.

El domingo fuimos a Segorbe y La Vall D’Uixó en apoyo a su nueva pareja pastoral que estaba aún en proceso de mudanza. Nos alegró ver a una de las hermanas que en estos cinco meses de ministrar en su iglesia no había estado, sólo la primera vez; lo pudo hacer porque “está en el paro” (se quedó sin trabajo) y ahora sí tiene el tiempo para ir a la iglesia. Al ser migrante, trabajaba los 7 días de la semana mientras tuvo trabajo… Ella no es la excepción; el efecto de las vacas flacas que vive nuestro país.

El mundo pareciera estar en un estado constante de caos; los pueblos se levantan y rebelan contra sus líderes; otros siguen luchando por reconstruir desde las cenizas y los escombros de terremotos que han atentado con eliminar sus posibilidades de progreso y vida; las familias se destruyen por el desamor, las separaciones y la escasez. ¿Cómo pues ser buen samaritano y buena samaritana con nuestro prójimo? Fortaleciendo nuestras redes de amistad íntima, especial, social y hasta común.

En medio del apagón nos identificamos con quienes sufren y con una realidad que también nos toca. En medio de los problemas por doquier que se viven en los países cercanos y los más lejanos, Jesucristo sigue siendo la respuesta y la esperanza que proclamamos a todo pulmón. Sólo El da paz a nuestros corazones que sobrepasa todo entendimiento. Sólo El compró nuestra salvación, perdona nuestros pecados y nos da vida eterna.

Acompáñanos a orar por las personas sin empleo y por sus familias, tanto nacionales como migrantes que juntos vivimos las subidas del costo de vida en España y alrededor del mundo. Acompáñanos a orar por las personas en países en reconstrucción o en revolución. Que nuestro Proveedor siga dándonos paz y gozo en medio de la adversidad... y que la iglesia ministre con denuedo la esperanza en medio de la desesperanza, levantándonos como faro de luz en medio de las tinieblas (Efesios 5:8).

On Tuesday the 15th there was a voluntary blackout in Spain—the 7th European country with more financial vulnerability and a 20.33% unemployment rate—in response to the increase in electric bills. In Spain lots of people have to manage their month with less or barely the minimum wage (748 Euros = US$1,010 a month), despite disproportionate increases in the cost of living, rent and utilities, transportation, food, and everything that is purchased or paid.

That Sunday we had been in Segorbe and La Vall D’Uixó in support of their new pastoral couple still moving in. We were glad to see one of our sisters that in these five months serving in her church had not been present, only the first time; she was able for she is now unemployed and has time to go to church. A migrant herself, she had to work all 7 days of the week while there was work… She is not an exception; but the product of the thin cows’ syndrome in our country.

The world seems to be in constant chaos; peoples rebel and rise against their leaders; others still struggle to rebuild from the ashes and the rubble of earthquakes that have threatened their achieving progress and having life; families are destroyed by their lack of love, lack of resources, and lack of commitment. How can we become Good Samaritans to our neighbors? We become Good Samaritans by strengthening our networks of best, special, social, and even casual friends.

Through the blackout we identified ourselves with those who suffer and with a reality that affects us. In the midst of problems everywhere in close by and far away countries, Jesus Christ continues to be the answer and the hope we proclaim to the fullest of our lungs. Only He can provide peace to our hearts that is beyond our understanding. Only He paid our price of salvation, forgives our sins, and gives us eternal life.

Pray with us for those without a job and for their families, both nationals and migrants like us living the increase in the cost of living in Spain and around the world. Pray with us for those in countries in reconstruction or revolution. Our Provider continues to give us peace and joy in the midst of adversity... And the church ministers hope boldly in the midst of hopelessness, rising as beacons of light in the darkness (Ephesians 5.8).
