That question startled us as we were buying our tickets for a trip to Dénia. This time, though, we weren’t taking the return bus at our usual schedule. Then and there we were reminded, that we are in our “glass house” as it has to do with this agent (re-read XmasInSpain-Part 2)…

This experience moved us to reflect some facts. As Christians, we live in glass houses. As human beings, us included, we often find ourselves in a predictable routine. Routines may be helpful to keep a sense of order, but it also has its dangers. One of them is how we react when “the unexpected” and “the unplanned” shows up… Like an earthquake/tsunami in Japan or China or elsewhere.

Japan and China…
Last Friday, March 11th, while Spain remembered the train bombing in Madrid in 2004, some friends celebrated birthdays, and a short-mission team left in their passion for the nations, Japan was shaken by numerous earthquakes and the subsequent tsunamis that have reshaped the land and the lives of many in the islands. Ripple effects moved through the Pacific to the Americas, affecting many in its way. Some dramatic before and after pics are available here where language is no barrier to understand the need to give generously to the One Great Hour of Sharing to assist our sister conventions in Japan and our missionary colleagues (Armagost, Hwang, Turley, and Stephens) in the rescue and recovery process.
     The day before, an earthquake had hit China in the border with Myanmar and many lives were lost and housing destroyed as well. Though far away from the epicenter, missionary colleague Judith Sutterlin is making a difference in China and your prayers and support of her ministries are appreciated.

Sudden death…
We were surprised to learn of Dr. Gustavo Parajón’s sudden death and your prayers are appreciated for Joan and their children that survive him and for each missionary colleague who, like us, met him and were blessed with his wisdom and expertise and will miss him.

Not the same as usual…
As these events so close together happened and made us ponder, we cannot stay the same as before… The people in China and Japan (and all other places experiencing natural disasters) have had to reshape their schedule and lives after such experiences. Our prayer is that enough Christian witnessing is available for many to know, accept, and live out of “His authentic love—all the way to the cross” (from today’s Rusbuldt Lenten devotional).
     As we realize how fragile our lives are, that we can be called upon at any second, we are always reminded that we need to cease the moment and be bold and loving about our sharing our faith with those who are perishing.
     As we returned home on a different bus schedule, it took a different route, through different towns which allowed us to see places we wouldn’t have otherwise… yet one more reminder that God surprises us each step of the way when we are willing, ready, and flexible.

When Jesus comes into our lives, we cannot be the same as usual. Our lives are to be transformed, changed, and moved into action by His Spirit. We are to bond and unite with fellow followers and believers in Jesus to rescue and reconstruct the lives of those who are to be saved and discipled. We shall not cease in our passion for those created in His own image and in need of His authentic love.

Esa pregunta nos descolocó mientras comprábamos los boletos para el viaje a Dénia. Esta vez, sin embargo, no regresaríamos en el horario de siempre. Ese momento fue un recordatorio de que estamos en una “casa de cristal”, al menos para con este agente de ventas (relee NavidadEnEspaña-Parte 2)…

     Esta experiencia nos motivó a reflexionar. Como cristianos, vivimos en casas de cristal. Como seres humanos, incluyéndonos, con frecuencia nos encontramos en rutinas predecibles. Las rutinas pueden ayudar a mantener un sentido de orden, pero también tienen sus peligros. Uno de ellos es cómo reaccionamos cuando llega “lo inesperado” y lo “fuera de planes”… Como los terremotos/tsunamis en Japón y China y doquier.

Japón y China…
El viernes pasado, 11 de marzo, mientras España recordaba el bombardeo del tren en Madrid en 2004, algunas amistades celebraban cumpleaños y un equipo de misión salió en su pasión por las naciones, Japón fue sacudida por numerosos terremotos y los subsiguientes tsunamis que han cambiado la tierra y las vidas de muchas personas en las islas. Efectos de onda se movieron por el Pacífico hasta las Américas afectando a muchas personas a su paso. Algunas fotos dramáticas del antes y el después se pueden ver pinchando aqui:  ... razones más que suficientes para ofrendar generosamente a One Great Hour of Sharing en apoyo a nuestras convenciones hermanas y colegas en misión en Japón (Armagost, Hwang, Turley y Stephens) en el proceso de rescate y reconstrucción.
     El día anterior, un terremoto azotó a China en su frontera con Myanmar. Muchas personas murieron y muchas viviendas fueron destruidas también. Aunque lejos del epicentro, la colega en misión Judith Sutterlin está haciendo la diferencia en China y tus oraciones y apoyo a su ministerio son apreciadas.

Muerte súbita…
Nos sorprendió y conmovió la noticia de la muerte repentina del Dr. Gustavo Parajón y tus oraciones son apreciadas para con su viuda Joan y los hijos que le sobreviven y por cada misionero que, como nosotros, le conocimos y fuimos bendecidos por su sabiduría y experiencia y que le extrañaremos.

No el mismo de siempre…
Estos eventos sucedieron muy seguidos y nos hicieron reflexionar; no podemos permanecer como antes… Las personas en China y Japón (y quienes han experimentado desastres naturales) han visto sus itinerarios y vidas alteradas después de estas experiencias. Nuestra oración es que haya suficiente testimonio cristiano disponible para que muchas personas conozcan, acepten y vivan a la luz de “Su amor auténtico—amor camino hasta la cruz” (del devocional de cuaresma de Rusbuldt para hoy).
     Al ver cuán frágil es nuestra vida, que puede ser reclamada en cualquier segundo, se nos recuerda que necesitamos redimir el tiempo; obrando con denuedo, amor y pasión al compartir nuestra fe con quienes se pierden sin salvación.
     Al regresar a casa en el bus de horario diferente, lo hicimos por otra ruta que atravesaba pueblos y lugares que de otra manera no hubiéramos visto… otro recordatorio que Dios nos sorprende a cada paso cuando estamos dispuestos, listos y flexibles.

Cuando Jesús llega a nuestras vidas, no podemos ser el mismo (la misma) de siempre. Nuestras vidas son transformadas, cambiadas y movidas a actuar en el poder de Su Espíritu. Hemos de apegarnos y unirnos con personas de nuestra misma fe y seguidores de Jesús para rescatar y reconstruir las vidas de quienes están por ser salvas y discipuladas. No hemos de cesar en nuestra pasión por las criaturas a Su imagen y semejanza en necesidad de Su amor auténtico.
