April this year includes Holy Week and we look forward to learning how people celebrate it here in Spain. Our adolescents had their annual retreat on April 1-3 in Madrid; we have the two Tuesdays in Dénia for the leadership training and workshops; and we will be sharing the Word on Palm Sunday in Xàtiva and Resurrection Sunday with Almussafes and Turís, followed by a 300-people-“paella” shared with community leaders and both churches, and ending with a vesper service; an Evangelical tradition in Turís. ABCORI meets on the 23rd while there’s a vigil here with UEBE’s MEM (national missions). ABCLA meets on the 29th and the 30th. Let us pray for these times of fellowship as well as for a very special Holy Week in Spain and everywhere the Salvation Jesus Christ bought for us is proclaimed. Let us be faithful witnesses where He has each of us, for a time as this.
     As we journey with Dr. Richard Rusbuldt’s Lenten Devotionals, the first week moved us to reflect upon several special thoughts: our relationship with Jesus... whether we have the same boldness as John the Baptist... how human beings mattered so much to Jesus that He came for each of us… which of Jesus' qualities attract us to Him the most... how as we get to know Him better, the more committed we are to His mission… of our awareness of Jesus' authentic love for us, all the way to the cross… Jesus’ nature: 100 percent God, 100 percent human... He came to show us the Way, His Way... The Laws are to be followed but, can we? While striving to fulfill His commandments, His grace is sufficient for us. As we share with the participants of the leadership training and workshops in Dénia, the Homiletics sessions have been pivotal in many of them realizing how much we can be blessed by following the Christian calendar and the Lectionary. Many struggle with their previous Catholic background. Their response to the Lenten devotionals has been positive in their approaching Holy Week with different eyes this year.
     It was a challenge to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice during the vivid celebrations of the Fallas, but at the same time being in Valencia during Fallas has given us new eyes to understand the culture and the traditions of this community. The adult winning “ninot” (see pic) reminds us of the love and care our Savior has for each of our hearts. His authentic love for us inspires our commitment to His service.
     Love is a feeling that moves us to action. Love moved Jesus’ all the way to the cross. Love is what moves and sustains our missionary colleagues serving in natural disaster stricken countries (Haiti, Chile, Baja California, China, and Japan). Love is what moves and sustains each of us to go global to rescue those who perish and accompany others in these efforts. Love is what moves and sustains you to continue investing your time, talents, and treasures in His missions at home, around your area, and beyond your borders. For that and much more, we are grateful…

Abril este año alberga la Semana Santa y anticipamos experimentar cómo se celebra en España. Los adolescentes tuvieron su retiro anual del 1-3 de abril en Madrid; tenemos dos martes en Dénia para los Cursos de Formación; y compartiremos la Palabra el domingo de ramos en Xàtiva y el de resurrección con Almussafes y Turís siguiendo con una paella para 300 personas que comparten entre las iglesias y con líderes de la comunidad, culminando con un culto vespertino; una tradición evangélica en Turís. En ABCORI se reúnen el 23, mientras tenemos una vigilia de oración del Ministerio de Evangelismo y Misiones (MEM-UEBE). En ABCLA se reúnen el 29 y 30. Oremos por estos tiempos de koinonía así como por una Semana Santa muy especial tanto en España como en cada lugar donde se proclama la Salvación que nos compró Jesucristo. Seamos de testimonio fiel en cada lugar donde nos tiene el Señor para esta hora.
     Hemos peregrinado con los devocionales de cuaresma de Richard Rusbuldt y en la primera semana reflexionamos ciertos temas: nuestra relación con Jesús... si tenemos o no el denuedo de Juan el Bautista... la importancia del ser humano para Jesús que vino por cada uno y una… las cualidades que nos atraen a El... mientras más le conocemos, más nos comprometemos con Su misión… nuestra consciencia del amor auténtico de Jesús para toda criatura, amor camino a la cruz... la naturaleza de Jesús: 100 por cien Dios, 100 por cien ser humano... vino a mostrarnos el Camino, Su Camino... las leyes son para ser cumplidas, pero ¿podemos? A la vez que lo intentamos, Su gracia es suficiente. Mientras compartimos con cada participante en los Cursos de Formación  en Dénia, las sesiones de Homilética han sido muy importantes para que muchas personas se den cuenta de cuán bendecidas pueden ser al seguir el Calendario Cristiano y el Leccionario. Hay quienes luchan con su previo trasfondo católico. Su respuesta a los devocionales de cuaresma ha sido muy positiva para que se aproximen a la Semana Santa este año con otros ojos.
     Reflexionar acerca del sacrificio de Jesús durante las Fallas ha sido un gran desafío, pero a la vez estar en Valencia durante estas fiestas nos ha dado un nuevo lente para entender mejor la cultura y las tradiciones de esta comunidad. El “ninot” adulto ganador nos recuerda el amor y cuidados del Salvador por cada uno de nuestros corazones. Su amor auténtico inspira nuestro compromiso a servirle.
     El amor es un sentimiento que nos mueve a la acción. El amor movió a Jesús al camino de la cruz. El amor es lo que mueve y sostiene a nuestros colegas en misión que sirven en países afectados por desastres naturales (Haití, Chile, Baja California, China y Japón). El amor es lo que mueve y sostiene a cada uno de nosotros que vamos alrededor del mundo a rescatar a quienes se pierden y acompañar a quienes siguen tales esfuerzos. El amor es lo que te mueve y sostiene a continuar invirtiendo tu tiempo, tus talentos y tu tesoro en Su misión en tu barrio, en tu región y más allá de tus fronteras físicas. Por ello y por mucho más estamos más que agradecidos…
