Update on our return to Haiti

We want to let you know we three (Nancy, Micah and Steve) arrived safely back in Haiti on Sept 6, 2007. We were joyfully received by dear friends and welcomed back with a community outdoor potluck. We are quite tired from all our travels this summer so are resting a bit these days. Also our truck is in need of repairs (no brakes) and needs auto insurance and new license plates (we are told this might take a while and a bit of money). So we are holding off on traveling for the time being and will stay put here at the UCNH campus and work at the Ebenezer Clinic down the road.

Temperature is mid to high 80’s all day, (and never seems to cool at night), humidity most always 80 to 90 percent, no fans in the afternoon and between 10:30 pm and 8 am. The smallest exertion will have us drenched! The temperature will most likely stay this warm until mid-December. We jokingly describe our days as “three-shower-days” and are so very grateful for the indoor running water and electricity that we do have.

Friends here have been filling us in on some of the patients we had been working with locally that we have told you about in other letters. Baby Emerson with the heart defect is growing but there is concern as to how much longer he can survive without treatment. Friends were able to gather back his documents. We will now try another route in trying to get his passport.

Sadly we heard that Jéhu, the man with unstable diabetes, had died the day before we returned, leaving a wife and five small children. Christlène, the young girl who had been in post-partum psychosis for four months, is doing amazingly well and greeted us with a beautiful smile and hug on the steps of the church this Sunday.

Highlights of our summer:

-Spending time with our five kids, four parents and brothers and sisters and their families
-Holding our new granddaughter Eily June, born on June 27th, to our daughter Kirstin and Lee and being there for Skyah and Eily’s dedication service at Circle of Mercy
-Staying in the home of Dick and Diane Rule (our son-in-law Lee’s parents)
-Taking part in the service of recognition with CBF and ABCUSA in Washington, DC.
-Participating in local missions with FBC Burnsville (our home church) and for Nancy to sing in the choir like old times
-Steve filling in for staff at Bakersville Clinic for doctor’s vacations
-Speaking in churches on the work in Haiti
-Attending two Kodaikanal International School reunions -- one in Mexico and the other in Pennsylvania
-Attending two weddings of dear friends in North Carolina and Indiana
-Getting Asia and Andrew settled in their colleges
-Traveling to South Carolina for our Transformational Development Team meetings
-Spending two days meeting with the International Ministries staff for orientation
-Having a wonderful Haitian meal at Herb and Bernice Rogers' home as we met for the first time with our Missionary Partnership Team

Prayer Requests:

- For God to bless the work of holistic health ministries in Haiti, that many might know of Christ’s saving Shalom
- For Jéhu’s widow and five children
- For Emerson to get documents to travel to the US for surgical consultation
- For God’s peace as we meet the challenges, which face us in the new year

We are so very grateful for your prayers and financial support for us.

In His love,

Steve & Nancy
