Dear Family and Friends,

Jamesoct1We experienced a very touching encounter this afternoon when Dr. Manno brought over two women who came to thank both Dr. Manno and Steve for their concern and medical care shown to them several months ago. Rose and her mother were full of smiles as they recounted what had transpired over the past few months, praising God for his loving provision for them. Nine months ago, Rose, a young slender girl of about 18 had been deathly sick with a large abdominal tumor causing her to be emaciated and very weak. She had been in much pain and was deteriorating after having consulted at several other clinics.

Although they lived in Cap, they found their way to the small Ebenezer clinic near where we live. With chronic fevers and a lab test showing a high sedimentation rate, she was started on a medication for tuberculosis. Rose’s mother was a woman with a strong faith in God and she made sure her daughter took the daily medications. Although she improved for the first two months of treatment, the abdominal mass kept getting bigger. Steve and Dr. Manno sent her for a sonogram at a lab some miles down the road. The results did not look hopeful. Surgery was recommended and they were sent to the government hospital in Cap Haitian.

With much prayer and perseverance, Rose's mother gave her own blood for a needed blood transfusion and arranged for other family members to also donate blood, in addition to having to find money and buy all the necessary medications (including IV’s) for her surgery though they were very poor. Finally Rose was operated on and a huge benign basketball size tumor was removed from her abdomen. Now three months later, Rose, who is restored to full health, and her mother were here in our living room, brimming with joy and gratitude to Jesus.

We want to thank you for your prayers and support for all of us here in Haiti. You all are a vital part of this team of bringing Christ’s presence with his Shalom, his healing love to this suffering world.

In his saving love,

Nancy and Steve James
