August, here we go again… Again? Yes, again, we are “on the go”, traveling for ministry. This time ministry takes us for a week to Bilbao, in the Basque Country, to minister with our families in Basauri, Munguía, Vizcaya, and Santander. Our wings continue to expand as the Lord leads us to different regions in Spain.

   Being in missionary service involves logistics of traveling, packing, unpacking, and packing again (and lots of laundry!)… preparing workshops, sermons, and chats… involves flexibility, willingness to adapt, and a huge desire to serve… Being in the mission field means patience with the unknown: people, food, nuances in languages, and traditions… It also involves paperwork… yes, paperwork… visas, residence permits, and reports.

   With 11 years and 1 month of ministry with our mission society, there have been times when we have asked ourselves, again? File again for that visa extension, for that residence extension, and for another report? Plan, pack, and unpack again? Yes, we ask those questions; we are humans! We ask ourselves if perhaps those could be hindrances to many who are called and have decided not to accept the call to being missionaries; they might want to avoid the “agains” of the missionary service.

   “As for me and my house” we know those “agains”. We accept them as a “labour of love” (1 Thes. 1:3) for the “poor, brokenhearted, captive, blind, and bruised” (Luke 4:18-19) Jesus sends us to. We are in good company! Your “labour of love” enables us to be here, serving where He sends us. It enables our mission society to receive new endorsed, appointed, and commissioned missionaries, like missionary colleagues J.D. and Rhonda Reed in Bolivia, Taku and Katie Longkumer in India, Joel Hoefle and Trish Magal in Thailand and Myanmar (Burma), and Dagoberto and Dilia Zelada to Honduras; each of these at different stages of their process. Each of these is willing to experience their “agains” for that same “labour of love”. During the biennial in Puerto Rico, we rejoiced to be with such a “cloud of witnesses” as we shared in the exhibit hall with many colleagues and many of you…

   Only God knows what awaits us in the Basque Country and the learning experiences our family will have in such a different region of Spain. We pray that our eyes and ears will be open to discern how best He wants to use us there now and in the future. When we return, we’ll be with our families in Mislata (Valencia), and Almussafes the following two Sundays, and we will continue overseeing the needs in Lorca as well.

   As you “open the front door and close the back door”, and prepare for your evangelism and discipleship workshops, think how many “agains” in your life lead you to His service… Think how many “agains” are involved in “reaching and touching lives”. Think how many “agains” are involved in your attempts to become the person God intends you to be. Praise Him for His Spirit that guides us…

   Again, Jesus is coming again… He promised and He will return. Meanwhile, may we continue to be the hands and feet, eyes and ears, mouth and mostly His heart, in serving and saving those He loves and for whom He is coming again.

Agosto, aquí vamos otra vez… ¿Otra vez? Sí, otra vez, “en carretera”, viajando por el ministerio. Esta vez por una semana al País Vasco a ministrar con las familias en Basauri, Munguía, Vizcaya y Santander. Nuestras alas se expanden pues el Señor nos dirige a otras regiones en España.

   Estar en el servicio misionero implica logísticas de viajes, empacar, desempacar y empacar otra vez (y mucha lavandería!)… preparación para talleres, sermones y conversaciones… implica flexibilidad, disposición para adaptarse y un inmenso deseo de servir… Estar en el campo misionero significa ser paciente ante lo desconocido: personas, comidas, variantes del lenguaje y costumbres… También el papeleo… sí, papeleo… visas, permisos de residencia e informes.

   Con 11 años y 1 mes de ministerio con la sociedad misionera, nos hemos hecho la pregunta, ¿otra vez? ¿Solicitar otra extensión de la visa, de la residencia, someter el informe otra vez? ¿Planificar, empacar y desempacar otra vez? Sí, nos hacemos esas preguntas; ¡somos humanos! Nos preguntamos si esos detalles desaniman a quienes teniendo el llamado deciden no aceptar ser misioneros; tal vez quieren evitar los “otra vez” del servicio misionero.

   “Yo y mi casa” conocemos esos “otra vez”. Los aceptamos como “trabajo de vuestro amor” (1 Tes. 1:3) por cada persona “pobre, quebrantada de corazón, cautiva, ciega y oprimida” (Lucas 4:18-19) a quien Jesús nos envía. ¡Estamos acompañados! El “trabajo de vuestro amor” nos permite estar aquí, sirviendo donde El nos envía. Permite que nuestra sociedad misionera endose, apruebe y comisione misioneros, como los colegas J.D. y Rhonda Reed en Bolivia, Taku y Katie Longkumer en India, Joel Hoefle y Trish Magal en Tailandia y Myanmar (Burma), y Dagoberto y Dilia Zelada en Honduras; cada uno en diferentes etapas de su proceso. Cada uno dispuesto a experimentar sus “otra vez” por ese mismo “trabajo de vuestro amor”. Durante la bienal en Puerto Rico, nos regocijamos al estar con tal “nube de testigos” al compartir en las mesas con colegas en misión y con delegados y delegadas…

   Solo Dios sabe lo que nos espera en el País Vasco y lo que aprenderemos en esta región tan diferente en España. Oramos tener los ojos y oídos abiertos para discernir cómo Dios quiere usarnos ahora y a futuro. A la vuelta estaremos con nuestras familias en Mislata y Almussafes los últimos domingos del mes, además de seguir cuidando de las necesidades en Lorca.

   Cuando “abres la puerta de entrada y cierras la de salida” y te preparas en talleres de evangelismo y discipulado, piensa cuántos “otra vez” en tu vida te dirigen en Su servicio… Piensa cuántos “otra vez” hay al “alcanzar y tocar vidas”. Piensa cuántos “otra vez” hay en tus esfuerzos por llegar a ser la persona que Dios quiere que seas. Bendícele por Su Espíritu que te guía…

   Otra vez, Jesús viene otra vez… Lo prometió y lo cumplirá. Mientras, que continuemos siendo sus manos y pies, ojos y oídos, boca y sobre todo Su corazón, sirviendo y salvando a quienes El ama y por quienes viene otra vez.
