Agosto nos inspira a repasar y usar una porción de una carta del 2010, por una buena razón…

Cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles, creces ante la adversidad…
“Ohana” significa “familia”. “Familia” significa “nadie queda rezagad@”.
“Somos más fuertes cuando estamos juntos.”

    Las primeras dos frases son muy conocidas. La primera es de la película de los ‘80 “La Joya del Nilo” y refleja la fortaleza interna individual que te permite sobreponerte a las adversidades pero implica los riesgos del individualismo y la pérdida de sensibilidad en medio de la adversidad o cuando hay competencia; puede enfatizar el “primero yo”.
    La segunda es de la película del 2002 “Lilo y Stitch” que enfatiza la unidad, el compañerismo y la necesidad de poner a otros primero y asegurarnos de que “nadie queda rezagad@”; implica esfuerzo familiar en equipo y unidad por una buena causa.
    La tercera es una cita de nuestro colega Elmo Familiaran, Ministro de Área en ABCNJ. En el contexto de esta reflexión puede ser interpretada como la combinación de las dos anteriores. Tenemos fortalezas y debilidades; es una realidad que vivimos a diario. Cuando trabajamos y jugamos solos, las debilidades afloran y pueden limitar que cumplamos las metas. Pero, cuando aplicamos la segunda frase (Ohana=familia=nadie queda rezagad@), y la ponemos en práctica, entonces nos complementamos en el trabajo y esfuerzo familiar y en equipo, minimizando los efectos de nuestras debilidades y resaltando las fortalezas que sirven mejor al grupo; por lo tanto somos más fuertes cuando estamos juntos.

Aunque compartido originalmente en el contexto de los fondos de pareo para misioneros (como la que finalizó recién), lo reusamos en el contexto de la Casa de Acogida para Mujeres en Lorca, España; Proyecto Estatal 2012 de las ABWM de Indiana.
    Mientras compartimos las necesidades de la Casa, nos rompió el corazón enterarnos que una joven embarazada que llegó a pedir albergue no pudo ser recibida por falta de espacio en la casa. "Ohana” significa "familia". "Familia" significa "nadie queda rezagado"…
    Nos anima saber que las iglesias en Indiana están levantando fondos para que en Lorca construyan una casa de 4 dormitorios, con espacio para 16 mujeres (¡10 más que las que hay ahora!). Nos anima saber que Dios provee para que como Débora, Safira, Dalila, Rut, Marta y Mara, otr@s tengan la oportunidad de que sus vidas sean transformadas por el poder del Espíritu Santo al llegar al albergue, ser amadas, cuidadas y tratadas.
    Según la crisis en España aumenta, así debe aumentar nuestra intercesión por los líderes y la gente en el país para que Dios tenga misericordia y ellos vuelvan sus ojos a Jesús, la única esperanza en un mundo aparentemente sin esperanza. Las imágenes hablan por sí solas en los videos de  www.elpais.com cuando hay revueltas.
    Ciertamente “somos más fuertes cuando estamos juntos”; rogamos tus oraciones y apoyo para que pronto “nadie quede rezagad@”.

August inspires us to revisit and repost a portion of a 2010 journal, for a good reason…

When the going gets tough, the tough get going…
“Ohana” means “family.” “Family” means “no one gets left behind.”
“We are stronger when we are together.”

    The first two phrases are very commonly known phrases. The first phrase is out of the 1980s movie “The Jewel of the Nile” and may reflect the concept of individual inner strength that allows one to persevere through hardships but also hints at the risk of individualism and losing sensitivity in the midst of adversity or when competition arises; it could stress the “me first”.
    The second phrase is out of the 2002 movie “Lilo and Stitch” and strengthens the unity, companionship, and need for each ((of us)) to put others first and make sure that “no one gets left behind”; it hints at team and family efforts and working in unity for a better cause.
    The third is a quote from our colleague Elmo Familiaran, Area Minister in ABCNJ. In the context of this reflection, it could be interpreted as a combination of the first two… We all have strengths and weaknesses; that is a reality we face on a daily basis. When we work and play solo, the weaknesses show up the most and can hinder our endeavors from reaching completion. Yet, when we apply the second phrase (Ohana=family=no one gets left behind), and put it in action, that is when we complement each other with our team and family work and efforts, to minimize the effect of our weaknesses and highlight those strengths that serve the group the best; hence we become stronger when we are together.

    Though originally posted in the context of a matching fund opportunity for missionaries (like the one that ended on July 31st), we’re reposting it in the context of The Good Way-Women’s Shelter in Lorca, Spain; ABWM of Indiana’s 2012 State Project.
    As we’ve continued sharing the needs at the Women’s Shelter, we’re heartbroken to learn that due to the lack of space in the shelter a young pregnant woman seeking help could not be admitted. “Ohana” means “family”; “Family” means “no one gets left behind”…
    We are encouraged that the churches in Indiana are raising the funds necessary to have a 4 bedroom house built, with capacity for 16 women (10 more than they currently have!). We are encouraged to know that God provides for these like Débora, Safira, Dalila, Rut, Marta, and Mara to have the opportunity to have their lives transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit as they come to the shelter and are loved, cared for and treated.
    As the crisis in Spain escalates, so must our intercession increase accordingly for the leaders and the people in the country so that the Lord will have mercy and that they will turn their eyes upon Jesus, the only hope in this seemingly hopeless world. Spanish isn’t required to understand the videos on  www.elpais.com when turmoil erupts.
    Indeed “we are stronger when we are together”; we covet your prayers and loving support so that soon “no one gets left behind”.
