September marks the end of summer/winter and the beginning of fall/spring… after our years in the southern hemisphere; we cannot help it but to always be so aware of those changes between north and south. After all, life is about constant changes from the instant we are conceived.
   It is interesting to see that we are now pretty much in the same spot where we were a year ago, facing uncertainty and holding on to our trust in God… It was after such events of last September that our move back to the States was necessary when our resident permits were not renewed. We have been serving in Indiana since May (after five weeks in Pennsylvania). We had lived in Pennsylvania (1993-1996) and Florida (1996-2000); and, Indiana becomes the third state we actually live in and call home. We are blessed to live as Hoosiers!
   Recently, we were blessed to catch up with a friend we had met 20 years ago in Israel, who had been our ministry guest in PA while we were in seminary and in Chile at the youth camp we hosted in 2008 and hadn’t seen since. These months of transition we have been repeating in our minds a song he and his wife wrote and which he authorized us to share with you. The lyrics are

          I just want to be what you want me to be
          Nothing more and nothing less
          To wait before your presence patiently
          And offer you my very best
          I just want to go where you want me to go
          Direct me from the very start
          No matter what the cares of the world are today
          I’m trusting you with all of my heart!

Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg remind us in their book Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus that “we are called to be disciples of a Master who is always in constant movement and wants us to go with Him, making disciples to the ends of the earth. We need to learn to recognize His voice, go where He wants us to go, serve and imitate Him in how He is and lives so that we can make His Good News known to the world.” We’ve been reminded by pastor Tom Bridges in his sermon series “Praying in a New Key” that it isn’t about us shaping God’s will but letting God shape us to His will (less negotiating and more obeying!) and letting our prayer life grow deeper and reaching out further.
   While serving in Chile and Spain we never envisioned being in the position where we are today: not knowing where our next place of international service will be. Yet, it is providing us a refreshed understanding of what His will and ministry is: in constant movement and not limited to one place (or the “assigned” place), not always knowing all the details in the schedule or route, and having total dependency/trust/reliance in God. And as scary as this may be, it is the best position we can be in!!!
   Psalm 42:11 remind us “Why am I discouraged? Why am I restless? I trust you! And I will praise you again because you help me, and you are my God.” We have served in Chile and Spain and we’re serving now in Indiana and will continue to serve wherever He takes us (praying for two possibilities). And, you are called to do the same! Trust, praise, and serve Him wherever He takes you…
   So, we continue to trust in God cause “no matter what the cares of the world are today (and regardless of the season changes), we’re trusting you with all of our hearts!”

Septiembre marca el fin del verano/invierno y comienzo del otoño/primavera… tras años en el hemisferio sur, es imposible no pensar en estos cambios entre norte y sur. Después de todo, la vida es de constantes cambios desde el instante de la concepción.
   Es interesante darnos cuenta que estamos casi en el mismo punto que estábamos hace un año, en incertidumbre pero sostenidos por nuestra confianza en Dios… Fue tras los eventos de septiembre pasado que tuvimos que mudarnos a EE.UU. cuando no nos renovaron los permisos de residencia. Hemos estado sirviendo en Indiana desde Mayo (tras cinco semanas en Pennsylvania). Hemos vivido en Pennsylvania (1993-1996) y Florida (1996-2000); y, ahora Indiana es el tercer estado continental donde vivimos y podemos llamar hogar. ¡Somos bendecidos de vivir aquí!
   Hace poco pudimos encontrarnos con un amigo que conocimos hace 20 años en Israel, que fue invitado musical en PA cuando estábamos en el Seminario y en Chile en el campamento de jóvenes que auspiciamos en 2008 y que no veíamos desde entonces. Estos meses de transición hemos repetido en nuestras mentes una alabanza que compuso con su esposa y que nos autorizó a compartir. Su letra es:

          Solo quiero ser lo que quieras Tú

          Esperar paciente en Tu presencia
          Y ofrecerte de mí lo mejor
          Solo quiero ir donde quieras Tú

Ann Spangler y Lois Tverberg nos recuerdan en su libro Sentado a los Pies del Maestro Jesús que “estamos llamados a ser discípulos de un Maestro que está siempre en movimiento, uno que quiere que vayamos con él, haciendo discípulos hasta los confines de la tierra. Tenemos que aprender a reconocer su voz, a ir donde él quiere que vayamos, servir e imitarle en su manera de ser y vivir, a fin de que podamos dar a conocer sus buenas noticias al mundo.” El pastor Tom Bridges nos ha recordado en su serie de sermones “Orando en una Nueva Nota” que no es que demos forma a la voluntad de Dios sino que le permitamos moldearnos según Su voluntad (menos negociación y mayor obediencia); permitir que nuestra vida de oración profundice y se extienda.
   En Chile y España nunca pensamos en vivir esto hoy: no saber cuál será nuestro próximo lugar internacional de servicio. Pero, Dios nos provee un entendimiento refrescante de Su voluntad y ministerio: movimiento constante sin limitaciones de lugar (“asignado”), no siempre saber los detalles del itinerario o la ruta, y vivir en total dependencia/confianza en Dios. Y con lo que esto asusta, es como mejor podemos estar.
   El Salmo 42:11 nos recuerda “¿Por qué te abates, oh alma mía, Y por qué te turbas dentro de mí? Espera en Dios; porque aún he de alabarle, Salvación mía y Dios mío.” Servimos en Chile, España y ahora en Indiana y seguiremos sirviendo donde El nos lleve (oramos por dos posibilidades). Y, te llama a hacer lo mismo. Confía, alaba y sírvele donde El te lleve…
   Confiamos en Dios porque “no importa lo difícil que sea el mundo hoy (con sus cambios y estaciones), confiamos en Ti con el corazón.”
