The other day I was really discouraged about problems at the boys’ school, and bureaucratic problems with the yarn project. Our wool supplier in Patagonia had kept us waiting three months for wool already paid for. Meanwhile we have an AB Women’s Ministries group in Colorado waiting to receive the wool and sell it for us at a special event. I felt like I was pushing a cart uphill!

On the way to a meeting with the women spinners, I was telling God I was sick and tired of all of this and I just wanted to quit...everything.

Then I get into the meeting room and all of the women had come early and they had filled a table with cake, sopaipillas, mate, and eggs. They made a speech about how happy they were with the new wool from Patagonia, the project, and that without me they would all be sitting at home depressed and wondering what to do, and they just wanted to say “Thank you.”

Then they handed me a beautiful gift, wrapped, with a card. They had planned and put effort into the whole thing. So I started crying as I realized how people´s lives are changing, and God is moving even when we may not notice.

I decided that there are depths of people´s love and commitment that I still had not fathomed. And I thought, “Why would I ever want to quit?”

One of the perks of being a missionary is the cards we get from AB Women’s Ministries groups in churches. Birthdays and holidays always mean a month of cards with prayers and kindness coming our way. Then there are the occasional cards just saying, “We are praying for you.”

These cards often come at just the moment we need to be reminded that we are carried and sustained by prayer, in ways and by people we may never fully know in this life.

These movements of God´s grace invite us to do the same for people who may never meet us or know us, but who also need some of that same bounty that we have freely received.

Wherever you are, whoever you are, "fare forward," because someone is praying for you, and Jesus is walking beside you.
