Cuando ves esta frase inmediatamente piensas en la novela clásica de aventuras que Jules Verne publicó en el 1873 y en las películas subsiguientes... Esa fue en 80 días. En sí misma, es bastante impresionante, ¿cierto? ¿Qué tal si alguien lo hace en menos de la mitad de ese tiempo?

Es precisamente lo que nuestra directora ejecutiva electa, Rev. Sharon T. Koh, ha hecho desde que se embarcó en julio en esta vuelta al mundo para conocer, compartir y conectar con servidores globales en todas las regiones de nuestra sociedad misionera. Empezó con el grupo más grande: nosotros en la Región de Iberoamérica y El Caribe (con una asistencia de 30 adultos y 19 hijos de misioneros-MKs). Nuestra directora de área, Rev. Dra. Adalia Gutiérrez-Lee, fue clave en nuestro encuentro, así como nuestra querida Ruth Mooney quien orquestó la logística del mismo.
       Más que (o además de) trabajar en el plan operativo Respondiendo al Llamado (RAL) que nos guiará en esta nueva etapa misionera, conocimos, compartimos y conectamos con los colegas de la región así como la directora de área y la directora ejecutiva electa. Nos divertimos, lloramos, compartimos gozos y desafíos, así como sueños y frustraciones. Pudimos apegarnos y acercanos unos a otros, más allá de las barreras geográficas, culturales o personales que existan a nuestro alrededor y que, en ocasiones, construimos nosotros mismos. Nos acercamos a ser la familia que queremos mostrar que somos por el amor que Cristo pone en nuestros corazones.
       Mientras como adultos estuvimos ocupados en nuestras reuniones y discusiones, los MKs estuvieron ocupados según sus edades. Se divirtieron e hicieron oir sus voces en la plegaria de su Enlace de Cuidado a MKs. Nos alegra que el proceso va avanzando y su/nuestra espera se acerca a su fin.
       Disfrutamos el clima agradable de Costa Rica. Disfrutamos estar juntos como familia (¡sus 5 BGs!). Disfrutamos conectarnos y reconectarnos con nuestros colegas y sus MKs. Disfrutamos una salida especial que coincidió con nuestro aniversario #28 del día en que nos conocimos. Lo disfrutamos en un lugar muy hermoso... Las flores, los pájaros y las cataratas nos rodearon como si el abrazo de Dios estuviera a nuestro lado en celebración de Su fidelidad a nosotros y la manera única en que Él nos unió...
       Esos 5 días y 4 noches pasaron muy rápido, cuando recién nos estábamos aclimatando a estar juntos y empezábamos a profundizar nuestras relaciones con nuestros colegas que lo ocupado de nuestros ministerios no nos permiten disfrutar. Necesitábamos regresar de nuestra experiencia en lo alto de la montaña (¡literalmente!) y regresar a cada uno de nuestros ministerios. Pero no sin antes disfrutar una despedida alegre con mariachi, canciones y tiempo de oración comunitaria... Fue un encuentro para recordarlo... Nos recargó para seguir extendiéndonos en cada uno de nuestros lugares.
       Sabemos que nuestros amados colegas alrededor del mundo han estado teniendo encuentros similares. Sigue cada uno de ellos en www.imaroundtheworld.org donde nuestra directora ejecutiva electa comparte sus impresiones, reflexiones y fotos de cada encuentro regional.
       En menos de 4 semanas, la Rev. Koh habrá Iogrado lo que a Fogg le tomó 80 días. Impresionante, ¿cierto? Acompáñanos en oración por su ministerio en medio nuestro, por los muchos desafíos que enfrentará en su asignación y por las muchas bendiciones que ya ha traido a todos nosotros. A ella y a nosotros nos tomará más de 80 días para "cantar armoniosamente" mientras que como servidores globales, personal nacional, iglesias y socios en misión seguimos "respondiendo al llamado" alrededor del mundo, compartiendo Su amor y evangelio "en la tierra como en el cielo". Damos gracias a Dios por el Rev. Dr. Reid Trulson y sus 10 años de servicio como director ejecutivo y oramos por las nuevas oportunidades de ministerio que se avecinen tras su jubilación a finales de este mes.

Nos comprometemos a mejorar en adelante. When you see that phrase you immediately think of the 1873 Jules Verne's classic adventure novel and the subsequent movies... That one was in 80 days. As it is, it is pretty impressive, right? How about if someone else did that in less than half that time?
       That is precisely what our executive director elect, Rev. Sharon T. Koh, has done since July when she embarked in this around the world trip to meet, share, and connect with global servants in all of our mission society's regions. She started with the largest crowd: us in the Iberoamerica and the Caribbean Region (30 adults and 19 missionary kids-MKs-in attendance!). Our area director, Rev. Dr. Adalia Gutiérrez-Lee, was instrumental in our gathering, as was our dear Ruth Mooney who orchestrated the logistics of it.
       More than (or besides) working in the Responding to the Call (RTC) operational plan that will guide us in this new season of missions, we were able to meet, share, and connect with our region's colleagues as well as our area director and executive director elect. We had fun together, we cried together, we had opportunities to share our joys and challenges, and also our deepest dreams and frustrations. We were given the opportunity to bond and come closer to each other, beyond the geographical, cultural, or personal boundaries that are built around us, and that at times, we build around ourselves. We came closer to being the family we seek to show that we are because of the love Christ puts into our hearts.
       While as adults we were busy with our own gatherings and discussions, our MKs were well cared for and engaged based on their age groups. They too had fun while also making their voices heard in their plea for their MK Care Advocate. We rejoice that the process is moving along and their/our long wait is almost over.
       We enjoyed the cool weather in Costa Rica. We enjoyed being together as a family (your 5 BGs!). We enjoyed connecting and reconnecting with our colleagues and their MKs. We enjoyed having an outing that coincided with our 28th anniversary of the day we met. What a joy in such a beautiful place!!! Flowers, birds, and waterfalls surrounded us as if God's embrace was right there by our side in celebration for His faithfulness to us and the unique way in which He united us...
       Those 5 days and 4 nights went by too quickly, just when we were actually getting the hang of being together and starting to deepen some of those relationships with our colleagues that the busyness of our ministries prevent us from enjoying. We needed to come down from our mountain top experience (literally!) back to each of our ministries. But not without a festive farewell with a mariachi, singing, and praying together! It was a gathering to remember... It refueled us to stretch forward in each of our places.

       In barely 4 weeks Rev. Koh will have accomplished what Fogg accomplished in 80 days. Impressive, right? Accompany us in prayer for her ministry in our midst, for the many challenges she will face in her tenure, and the many blessings she has already brought upon all of us. It will take her and us more than 80 days to "sing in one accord" as global servants, domestic personnel, churches, and partners seek to continue "responding to the call" around the world in sharing His love and gospel "on earth as in heaven". We thank God for Rev. Dr. Reid Trulson and his 10 years of service as executive director and pray for his new ministry opportunities upon retirement at the end of this month.
