The Quietness of Simple Spaces
I sit in a
room that has only a borrowed desk, chair and fan. Though quite empty looking in appearance, the
simplicity feels peaceful. I do wish for a more comfortable chair, possibly a
couch or pillows on the floor to sit on to entertain visitors; my language tutor when I have Ewe language lessons,
the 2 local teenage girls that aspire to become a medical doctor and a
Gynecologist, but for now, this is what I have.
I am thankful. It’s easy to sweep
out which is almost daily as Bear (my doggy) sheds his coat, yet again in this Ghanaian
weather. The room looks large and
inviting to move around. The yellow
walls bring about cheer and brightness, far from drab. Quiet. Minimal. Few
distractions. An umbrella sits in the corner waiting for its turn for use
during the Rainy season (April-July). I find myself emotional over the smallest
of little gifts; the NPR Podcast on Jazz that “mysteriously” grew to a complete
upload on my phone with Esperanza Spalding and Billy Strayhorn interviews, the donated
bag of coffee I brought from the States, the night air that drops to a cool 80
degrees with the ceiling fan on speed 2 instead of 4, Bear- who is up working
as the “Super Guard dog” in the night while I’m sleeping or attempting to as
his barks are rather loud but reassuring, and Time.
Time to breath, listen, observe, and
be still. I’m such a busy person as many of you know, a “Get-it-Doner”
as one of my girlfriend’s calls me.
However, God is striving to GET-IT-DONE!
He is busy
here!...In me and in this ministry. I
can hardly keep up! Though He does not
require for me to “keep up” I am thankful that He is aware of my presence, I am
thankful for the many people supporting this ministry and most currently, I am
thankful for the Quiet, the Minimal and the Few distractions in an effort to
better hear His Voice.
“For I know the plans I have for you…you
will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you… ” (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
Happy
Newest 2017 Year… May We All be striving to be SEEKERS of HIM!
I’d love to hear from You!!
