At least 46 people were killed during an election in the southern part of the Philippines since November 24, 2009. The victims include
at least 13 Filipino journalists from regional newspapers, TV and radio stations. Philippines President Mrs. Arroyo has declared a state of emergency in Mindanao.

Benjamin Chan, Area Director of East Asia and India, has contacted our partner the Convention of the Philippines Baptist Churches, and expressed our concern for this tragedy.

Carla Romarate-Knipel, International Ministries’ Special Assistant for Philippines Relation, asks for our prayer and assistance for “our pastors and churches, especially those caught in the middle of the violence and political conflicts in the southern Philippines.”
