Philippine Election Tragedy Update

Rev. Job Santiago and Mrs. Feraz Legita of the Convention of Philippines Baptist Churches who talked via cellphone with Pastor Boy Guartero, President of the Eastern Mindanao Kasapulanan residing in Sultan Kudarat. Job informed us that the President's cousin was among those massacred.  At the moment, a statement regarding the massacre may not be released because it was politically motivated and there is tension in the area. However, Job added, “Our churches there are doing their prayer support and join other churches and organizations in Peace Prayers.  I continue to communicate with our pastors and leaders in the area and assure them of the support of the Convention.  The CPBC is joining with the rest of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines and Catholic churches in peace vigils and rallies here in Iloilo.” The Convention has six churches in Sultan Kudarat and Rev. Librado Repolidon, one of our pastors in the area, has to find an alternative and safer route in going to the 4-5 more T'boli tribal churches nearby.
