How I Spend My Time

Although I spend time with all the kids, I am currently spending most of my time with the graduates. Counseling them and being a parent, more or less.Of course, I do also go out and talk to businesses and organizations about donations to our program, or asking them to offer work positions for our graduating kids. My biggest challenge is working to integrate them back into society. This includes helping them find a church.Believe it or not, this is a big problem. We don't really want them to go as a group to a church as they are supposed to be learning to leave the "institutional setting" and be an individual. However, they have the same old problem we all have breaking the "clique" barrier in a church. They feel they have a "street kid" stigma to overcome and they aren't really accepted. This is actually often the case, especially when they are black or even just darker than most of the rest of the congregation.Among the poor there is no racial stigma and our kids come to us in all colors. But there are major prejudices among the affluent.

Prayer Request

This is a prayer request. We need to find churches that will love, accept and nurture our young adults as they leave our nest, so they don't fall back into their old lifestyle.Imagine how horrible it is to have their first experience with Christians outside of our campus be a bad one? Please pray for this part of our ministry. It takes more than one church. We need lots of churches to work with us.
