Hi from
Honduras! I have been praying much about what to share with you all. I feel
like God is constantly doing about 500 things in my life at once
and focusing on just one aspect is hard. Today, while visiting a
little neighborhood church it became clear. There was this little boy in a
bright red polo shirt sitting right next to me up in front. After a team from
Illinois had an opportunity to teach the story of David and Goliath and
sing some children’s songs like “Tengo paz como un rio” the congregation wanted
to share with us. They brought out a miniature guitar and about 40 kids all
immediately joined in singing. This little 20x30ft concrete church was just
overwhelmed with the voices of small children and adults alike. Suddenly they
all got up and walked out of the building. They walked a lap around the church
losing no intensity in volume and came back in and found their seats again. The
boy in the red polo looked up at me and the biggest smile split across his face.
I could feel my heart swelling at the pride in this little boy’s eyes for his
congregation, his small church building, his God.
I am
inspired by people like this boy. To take pride in serving and worshiping the
God of the universe. I am also reminded that God is no more present at my home
church than in that small one. It is never our responsibility to “bring God” to
a certain country as He is most definitely already there and will always be
there. It is our responsibility to share the good news of a savior who lived a
humble, perfect life and died a painful death on a cross in order that we might
be able to have a relationship with the Father. It is our responsibility to
love God first and love others second. I take comfort in knowing that even when
I leave this beautiful country God will keep working, healing, and renewing.
The
power has been out in Azacualpa for a couple days which is why I haven’t
communicated for a while. Things are going really well here! Personally I am
coming to know the children and staff really well. I started helping in the
1st-5th grade school here alongside the English teacher and I really enjoy
that. The kids love to practice their rehearsed English phrases on me and I am
able to help with pronunciation and spelling. My absolute favorite thing so far
is when the kids see me and come running with shouts of “Emeely!” and I get
buried with hugs, none of them coming higher than my waist. I am
so certain that God knows what He is doing having me here. Thank you for
all the constant support and God bless!
