Medical Trainers and Providers Needed in North Haiti (Volunteer Opportunity)

Volunteers (men and women) are needed at the Baptist Convention Hospital, Quartier Morin, North Haiti. This is a community hospital offering both outpatient and inpatient services. A mobile medical van is also available for outreach to the community.

Volunteers can be used in teaching community health and specialty skills for nurses (especially NICU, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, ER) as well as ongoing care.

Current needs include: 
  • Medical providers including: occupational therapists, physical therapists, teachers (special education especially), rehabilitation specialists, child life specialists, speech therapists and anyone who has experience working with special needs children.
  • Teaching community health and specialty skills for nurses (especially NICU, Obstetrics, Pediatrics and ER).
  • Working in surgery, lab and emergency medicine.
  • Working with children with disabilities. (Experience in this area preferred but not required.)
  • Working in physical and occupational therapy.
  • Teaching how to crochet or knit wash cloths (or other small items, or combining the squares into blankets) for rehabilitation patients, staff, missionaries and family members who are interested.
Time frame: One week or more. The longer a volunteer can serve at either at the children’s center or the adjoining hospital, the better.

Housing: $20/day (no food included) to $50/day (including two meals). Transportation to and from hospital each day is extra.

Languages: Knowledge of Haitian Creole or French is a plus, but not required if you are willing to try and learn or be patient.
