Medical Personnel Needed in Nepal (Vocational and Volunteer)

Three hospitals in two partner organizations are seeking medical personnel to serve and train in Kathmandu and the surrounding region.

Human Development Community Services in Kathmandu

Lamjung District Community Hospital (LDCH), Besishahar, Lamjung District, Nepal
An Anesthetist, General Practitioner (family practice), Orthopedic Surgeon and Pediatrician are all needed to work in the emergency department, in-patient wards, out-patient clinics and surgery (as per their specialist qualifications). Registered Nurses are also needed to work alongside the hospital staff nurses, including providing teaching and supervision.

Chaujahari Hospital Rukum (CHR), mid-western region, Nepal
Ob/Gyn doctors and General Surgeons as well as Registered Nurses are needed to work in ED, in-patient wards, out-patient clinics and surgery (as per their specialist qualifications). Registered Nurses are also needed to work alongside the hospital staff nurses, including providing teaching and supervision.

Requirements
Expatriate doctors are required to have a medical degree as well as post-graduate specialty training in order to be licensed with Nepal Medical Council. An interview for registration with the Medical Council is required. Visas are free.

Registered nurses should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and must pass the nursing exam given in Nepal and be interviewed by the Nepal by the Nursing Council. All expats now also have to get a work permit and an interview at the Ministry of Labor to work in Nepal. Medical school is required for Family Medicine, a certification as a Family Physician, encouraged but not required. Specialty training (residency) in addition to Medical school is required. Pre-arrival Cross Cultural orientation course is strongly advised, beneficial but not required.

United Mission to Nepal (UMN) in Kathmandu (vocational and long-term volunteer)

The United Mission Hospital in Kathmandu is seeking a General Practitioner (family practice), Pediatrician, Ob/Gyn, Internal Medicine, and Surgeon. Job descriptions are available for all positions. You can expect to work with medical staff of the hospital and the Outpatient Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to working in the OR/ER area of the hospital, performing rounds, taking night calls on a regular basis and helping with the training and supervision of residents and staff.

Requirements
MBBS (or MD) or equivalent from an internationally recognized center plus at least three years of post-graduate experience (residency). Certification in Family Practice (general practice) and Obstetrics preferred.

Housing: UNM will assist with finding housing, but the volunteer is responsible for funding.
