The Baptist Convention of Telugu Churches (BCTC) celebrated its First Anniversary at the Jewett Memorial Baptist Church (JMBC) in Ongole on January 16 to 18, 2009. The theme of the conference “Look Unto the Lord” (Psalm 34:5) attracted several hundred delegates and Baptist members from the five regions of Andhra Pradesh (State). The JMBC choir led the congregation into joyful worship with beautiful Telugu Christian hymns. National leaders Rev. Dr. D.J. Augustine, Rev. Dr. I. Charles, Rev. Paul Eswarappa as well as former International Ministries’ missionary Dr. William Scott were the conference speakers.

International Ministries has supported the formation of BCTC. We share a common vision to restore the unity of Telugu churches, and to focus on the transformational ministry of Jesus Christ. In the past year, BCTC organized association and regional revival meetings, bringing Christians together for mutual learning and mission planning. International Ministries and BCTC have sponsored the construction of ten village church buildings, 25 seminarians in the Andhra Christian Theological College (ACTC), and three students who are pursuing doctoral and master level theological study.

During the Celebration, a new class of officers was elected in the General Council meeting. Mr. P. Jayachandra Rao was elected the the Chairman of the General Council. Rev. Rev. Dr. D.J. Augustine and Rev. Dr. I. Charles were elected the General Secretary and the Associate General Secretary of the Convention respectively.

International Ministries missionary Debbie Mulneix has visited Telugu churches and ACTC promoting short-term mission and volunteer program. She has received very positive response of this new venture. IM India Country Director David Perkins and missionary Betsy Perkins attended the 25th Anniversary of the Abundant Life Ministerial Associates, which was started by Telugu pastor the late Rev. C. Kamalakar. They witness how the passion of Telugu Christians extended to other tribal groups like Yanadi and Banjara.
