While it is approaching harvest time in America, it is rainy season here in Chiang Mai, and the perfect time to start growing things.  The children at the House of Love are excited about planting a vegetable garden as well as flowers and trees, and most have a very definite opinion about what they want to take care of.  So some of the back yard has been sectioned off, and each child is going to take care of a part that he or she has planted.  Money has also been given to stock the fish pond, for which we are grateful.  (Unfortunately, we can’t just dump the fish into the existing ponds—they first need to be prepared before the baby fish can be raised.)  We are hopeful that HOL-grown fish and vegetables will be on the menu in the very near future!!

Praise and Prayer Points:

The Health Project staff are out teaching seminars as well as working on clean water projects.  Pray that they can have an effective ministry amongst the ethnic minority groups they are serving.  This past month, the HPTP staff was encouraged when representatives from one of our major funding agencies came to talk with the staff about issues concerning rights.  After the session, the HPTP staff were told that the work they are doing with ethnic minorities in helping with access to education, citizenship, and medical care is exactly what the funding agency had envisioned back in Sweden for empowering ethnic minorities.

Please pray for Suttee, one of the children at the HOL.  You may remember this little boy is deaf, and when he originally came to the HOL, volunteers worked with him in order to help him be ready for school.  Last year, he attended a school for children with disabilities, but this year he has been very resistant to going.  The teacher feels that he is very bright and capable of learning.  However, Suttee has started acting out.  Because of the deafness, the reasons behind this are difficult to assess, and your prayers for wisdom in this situation are valued.

Please pray for the general health of the children at the House of Love and at the House of Blessing Daycare.  This past month, we had to close the daycare for 2 days because of so much illness, and with the threat of swine flu, we are feeling the need to be extra cautious.

Please join us in praying for 2 grant proposals that are being considered this month.  The Japanese Embassy will meet at the end of August to make their decision that would help with the building costs for the HOL.  The other proposal is through World Concern, and would help provide general operating costs for the daycare.  Thank you for praying!

Finally, I am getting ready to return to the US for 3 months with my colleague from the CDPD (Center for Development of People with Disabilities).  Pray for me as I try to leave things in good order here, as well as prepare for Khun Saylo and me to effectively share about the work in Mae Sariang.
