Dear brothers and sisters:

One of the Haitian Baptist churches that we have been involved during our time in La Romana, Dominican Republic named “Beraca” started a “40 Days of Fasting and Prayer” on January 3rd with the theme of:  “Where are you going to spend your eternity?” with the Scripture reference in Matthew 25:31-46.  When the news came that a earthquake in Haiti had occurred on January 12, 2010, it really moved all of us to think deeper of our eternity since so many Haitians did not anticipate to die, neither to lose their loved ones.

In the midst of the pain, Beraca Church continued with fasting and prayer, which involved prayer-time every day from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a worship service from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  The Lord really prepared us to receive such devastating news.  At the same time, it prepared us go to Haiti, and to put in action the verse found in Matthew 25:40:   “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Last Tuesday, January 19, one week after the earthquake, the Good Samaritan Hospital of the Haitian Missionary Baptist Church in La Romana (supported by ABC-One Great Hour of Sharing donations) responded to the crises in Haiti, and we decided to be part of the team in order to be with the least of Jesus’ brothers and sisters in Haiti in order to continue with our fasting (as mentioned in Isaiah 57:6-7).  A medical team of Dominicans, Haitian-Dominicans, and Americans went as one body to accompany our brothers and sisters who are living under tents made out of sheets.  Yes, this is the new home of the vast majority of the Haitians living in Port-au-Prince.  Poor and rich are living under the same living condition of eating, sitting, and sleeping on the ground, a humbling experience that is leading each Haitian to look up to God.  (To see photos of the Haiti tent camps for earthquake survivors, go to -- www.missionbluefields.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=111)

As we read in Isaiah 57:15 it says:  “I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in sprit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” We heard many testimonies of many Haitians who are in that lowly state, and are experiencing a revival in their spirit and heart.

Midreille, the first woman who Ketly visited upon her arrival to one of the many tent camps in Port-au-Prince, said, “Each Haitian is a miracle”.  Midreille’s house fell upon her, and miraculously she found a small hole in the rubble, a hole that God opened for her to escape through it so she can testify today about God’s power to do mighty things.  Saving Midreille’s life is one of the many miracles that God performed so the glory of the Lord could be manifested in Haiti.

This crude reality of the devastation after the earthquake made many Haitians to think about eternity, and today we can testify as we visit with many people in Haiti, that their eternal assurance is in the Lord, the same God who gave them another chance to live for His glory.

Please pray for:

1.  Our return to Haiti with a medical team from the Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday, January 25th.

2. A singing group of 10 people from Haiti who came to participate in the “40 Days of Fasting and Prayer” in Beraca Church who need help to stay in La Romana for a time because their homes have been demolished.  Their relatives are living in the tent camps.

3. Resources for Haitians living in the Dominican Republic who want to go to Haiti to look for their loved ones.

In Christ,

Ketly and Vital Pierre
