Haiti may begin to feel the effects of the storm by Thursday. Even storms that do not reach hurricane strength have caused widespread damage and loss of life in Haiti in recent years.

Deliris Carrion, International Ministries Missionary and Jenny Jenkins, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel are serving in Grand Goave at this time with a team of ten from the Great Rivers Region who are scheduled to be in Haiti through November 6. The team is serving at the Siloe Baptist Church site and with Conscience International, a group that is building rubble houses in Haiti. Deliris and Jenny are meeting regularly with the team and making decisions accordingly. Please keep the people of Haiti, the missionaries and aid workers, and the volunteer teams and their leaders in your prayers.

Although it has been downgraded from a hurricane, there is still much to pray about. The school buildings in Grand Goave are strong enough to withstand the winds of a monster hurricane. Currently the prediction is for 80 mph winds when it hits land. The real concern in Grand Goave is flooding. There is a 120 acre or so reservoir/lake up on the mountain behind Grand Goave and a river that runs right beside the camp. The town is flat, low lying, and right on the beach. Even a tropical storm that takes close to 24 hours to cross the island (as current forecasts predict) will drench the area with at least 10-12 inches of rain on the mountains and all of that will wind up passing through Grand Goave. The danger is not winds but flooding.
