We enjoyed our meals at Main House at Pendle Hills. They used locally grown ingredients.

Brinton House is where we gathered for worship, meetings and fellowship. Some of us stayed in this place.

Friend with Benefits
What does a spiral, Paul
McCartney’s “Hello, Good-bye”, impersonations, and 16 missionaries have in
common? Give up? They were all part of the Conference for Missionaries (CFM) held
in Pendle Hill, Quaker Retreat Center near Philadelphia. Dr. Lee
Spitzer gave us a spiral view of our journey in work and life. We are all on a
journey that we can only know the significance at the end. But each ending is
the beginning of the next journey. He used “Hello, Good-bye” as a multi-sensory illustration of his point. I will never forget all of us in the room singing
along and laughing.
Our staff gave us a great time of
refreshment and training as we looked forward to our US/PR assignments. (We met in Brinton House and had our meals in Main House.) Karen,
a new member of our Mission Advancement Team (MAT), gave multiple impersonations during her introductions of her teammates. She and Gregg, another new member of the MAT,
gave us laughter for the conference journey. Each team gave us their best as we
gathered each day for worship, program, and sharing time after dinner. One morning, we had a special visit from Dr. Roy
Medley, General Secretary of American Baptist Churches as he shared his vision
for our future.
This is the best CFM I have attended yet and we are looking forward to another term of serving in Japan! We returned to Yokohama on Sunday, August 30th so that Lee Ann can attend teacher’s meetings and begin school on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. Please continue in praying for us as we serve in Japan.
With much love,
Gordon (and Lee Ann) Hwang
P.S. If you noticed the last picture, you will need to ask one of the missionaries, "What is the significance?"
This month, you may be hearing more about mission around the world and giving. We want to express our thanks to the many people that have responded and pledged toward our financial support. Would you consider a donation or pledge to World Mission Offering now through October? Please know that your part in the body of Christ is extremely valuable. Please donate at your local American Baptist church or visit:
