College of Nursing Project Planning

Catch the Vision!

The Satribari School of Nursing began in 1926 with five nursing students.  The current vision is to advance their program to a  College of Nursing (i.e. a Bachelor’s program of Nursing) which means increasing the level of nursing education provided. A College of Nursing for the Satribari Hospital and CBCNEI partners would be the first Christian Bachelor’s level nurses training in the entire state of Assam. Guwahati, where Satribari is located, is considered the Gateway to the Seven Sisters and therefore a prime location for the new program, as it would reach many people coming to Guwahati from surrounding regions. The professors and leaders of CBCNEI see the College of Nursing as a tool of evangelism that doesn’t stop at only the education of students. They see this means of evangelism being used in outreach to hospitals and clinics throughout India as highly qualified nurses return to home communities having learned of the love of Christ and the morals and values of a Christian education. Already, the name, Satribari, carries with it high honor and respectability, allowing graduates to gain employment without extensive interviews and oftentimes before final classes are completed. Advancing the current GNM (General Nursing and Midwife) program to a Bachelor’s program would allow for more students to experience this high caliber of education with a focus on Christian ethics as well as open the Satribari Hospital to expansion and much-needed renovation to meet the demands of an advanced nursing program. With the backing of the CBCNEI and local leadership, we are greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm of both professors and hospital staff for this new project.
