Dear Friends in Christ,

Many have asked me about our Kids for Kids program.

The 'goat project' is a mechanism for kids in the USA to help kids in Haiti. It is a popular project for Sunday schools and VBS's.  With the sale of one goat, a Haitian child can pay his or her school fees, buy the required school uniform, pay for books, and have money left over for pencils and paper. An adult female goat costs $40-$50. and that is all one-semester costs for a grade school student.  Sadly, many parents do not have even this much money when school fees' time comes around, particularly when there are six or more kids to put through school.

The project goes like this:  A Haitian pastor says he is interested in the project for his church.  We send him the following information:

 1.  The church must form a  'goat committee' to supervise the flock of goats.

2.  They must make a list of all the children in the church who would like to have a goat (under 18)

3.  The church must send me the list and the names of the goat committee members.

Once we have their list, providing funds are available, we go to one or more of the regional animal auctions and purchase ten good quality, adult female goats. Then we inform the church and set a date for delivering them.  The children must sign a contract that they must give the first two female offspring from their goat to the goat committee to pass on to the other children in the church. The goat committee is responsible to see that the goats are cared for properly and that the offspring are collected and passed along.

This project is called "Kids for Kids."  It is lots of fun and gets me into lots of churches.  The long-term impact can be enormous. Some of the kids who first got goats five years ago have long since given back their two and now have dozens of their own. Unfortunately, not all goats do so well.  Some are stolen and others die from diseases or neglect. Under ideal conditions, the original 10 could explode to 400 goats in five years, which represents $8,000 - $16,000 increase in the church congregation's wealth.

I hope this answers your questions about this program.  It has been very effective in many churches.

Thank you to all our supporters.  May you have a happy and blessed Christmas knowing we have already received the best gift of all...Jesus Christ.

In His Name,

Nzunga and Kihomi
