Dear Loved Ones,

 

Greeting from our Haiti cheri. I left the house in Mesa, Arizona at 10 PM this August 9 for a midnight flight red eyeing to Miami, FL, then on to Cap-Haitian our city. I have packed almost 150 pounds of hard eye glass cases in my suitcase in my two trunks.

Deep down I was happy for what I was bringing to and for the eye clinic. When we got to the American counters, My son and I were told by the American Airlines agent that Haiti has  embargoed everything with plastic lids. She, the agent, cannot check in my two trunks. She advised me to go to Walmart to buy myself a suitcase. Looking at the time of boarding, I said to myself that it was not worth going and missing the plane.

Deep down in my heart, I was sad and I felt all the energy leaving my body.  As I stood aside pondering on what to do, a supervisor (I just assume he was) came in with a suitcase and handed it to us to unload one trunk and load the suitcase that has the red symbol.  My son helped load the suitcase before they checked me in.

Talking about miracles, I think that we were just witnessing one right there. Praise God that He does not sleep and sees us at every moment,

This may be a good idea taken too far.  I know that Haiti has banned plastic bags and everyone should.  On a mission trip on the east side of the Andes we traveled for hours on a tributary of the Amazon river in the central Peruvian jungle.  This is what we call in the middle of nowhere.  However, it was downstream from Lima Peru a large city.  The water had dropped about 6 feet and the banks looked like there was a white band along them.  It was bleached out plastic bags caught in the bushes.  Hard to say how many reach the ocean.  Very bad for marine life.  I’m guessing that this law is interpreted by the bureaucracy as no plastic period.  Never-the-less it is a good example of the problems you run into in mission work and how often angels come to your aid. 

 

You also are an angel providing the funds and prayer support to allow this mission to happen, bringing God’s love to the least of these.  Thank You.
