Dear Loved Ones,

Be surprised by God. Pray. Give. Be amazed…Eph. 3:20

Let us introduce you to Ema Prince, a 28 year-old Haitian young girl who has just graduated from our school of theology this last May with a license or Bachelor degree. Her father is a HOUNGAN, a witch doctor. Her mother was an ambulatory merchant or Mama SARA who went from town to town, city to city and marked to market selling her goods to make the ends meet. She took Ema with her in those trips. Ema could not go to school as she was helping her mother for their living since the father abandoned the mother and the 3 children. Meanwhile, this infant missed the climate of a family where children learn to love others and to appreciate themselves. Ema's mother died when she was in her early teen and she was raised by a lady friend to her mother and really struggled to study.

Ema has not been affirmed enough to appreciate herself. In fact she doubts her qualities. She has no close friends. In May, the week she was to defend her EmaLicense thesis, her fiancé brutally ended the relationship. Ema was almost drowned in this life. She was hurting and was really confused for a long time. We supported her.

In spite of her doubts and hurts, through the years of her training here, I noticed that Ema has qualities that needed a mentor. After her graduation, we offered her the possibility of working at the university as an Assistant professor. She went to check with some people who completely discouraged her as not being able to function at a high level of education. She came back declining the offer. Kihomi talked to her as a mother, encouraged her, and prayed with her. After all that Ema said that she has not had anybody to encourage her and appreciate her, to challenge her to develop her Ema, Assistant Professor at the Christian University of Northern Haiti.talents. Ema is now teaching and supervises the girls' dorm.

Ema is assisting me with Introduction to Psychology. From time to time she sits in on our Christian Ethics class while she is developing her talents in New Testament. Ema has become a delight to students and to herself. She is amazed on how much she can offer to the world. While I am helping shape her teaching skills, Kihomi is empowering her so she can aim high in life. After observing Ema teach, Kihomi said: "this girl will go far. I am proud of her."

We don't have money to pay a university professor and Ema is already in our midst teaching.

This is the time of the year that American Baptist Churches receive the World Mission Offering which provides a significant amount of support for IM's missionary work in Haiti and around the world.

If you have not already done so, we encourage you to consider giving generously to the 2006 World Mission Offering in one of the following ways:

1. If you attend an American Baptist Church, the best way that you can support us is by giving to your church's collection of the annual World Mission Offering. Most American Baptist Churches take this offering in September or October. If your church does not normally promote this offering, we would encourage you to talk with your pastor about the possibility of adding the World Mission Offering to your church's schedule.

2. If you are not a member of an American Baptist Church, or you prefer to make a direct contribution to our ministry, then send your gift to the following address.
