Christmas Eve and a Broken Heart

During the last two weeks of December, we began to sense an emotional change in the people we minister to as the one year anniversary of the earthquake came closer. Everyone was sad, not just those people who had lost family members and homes. I, Kihomi myself felt so very sad that on Dec 24th I decided to help overcome some of the sadness by ministering to someone in mourning. That day I went to Plaisance to visit with a mother whose two children, college students had lost their lives in the earthquake in Port-au-Prince.

The mother shared how she had invested her life in the lives of her children through nurturing care, education, and Christian education in the home. The body of their son was not found and the rescue people were unable to get her daughter out of the rubble before she died. The rescue workers were able to speak with her and get her name to identify her body. Others, however, told the mother how her daughter had witnessed by singing hymns and reciting Psalms until her death. The mother had begun questioning how God could let such a thing happen to her daughter.

We cried together, I counseled, and prayed with her. I reminded the mother how blessed she truly was to have such a daughter who knew Jesus. I asked her to take comfort in knowing that her child was with God.

Please continue to pray for the people in Haiti that God will give them comfort and peace.

 Dear Friends,
A year has past and Haiti is not in the news much now.  The millions in tent cities have seen little progress towards helping them get out of their situation.  One lady said “The diplomats fly over in helicopters but they don’t walk among us”.  Kihomi and Nzunga do walk among these people living in misery and do what they can.  They provide the comfort of understanding and weep with those who weep.  They also offer the comfort of a caring God who also weeps at this terrible situation.  Thank you for your support that allows Nzunga and Kihomi to be the hands and feet of God in the midst of tragedy.
