Dear Loved Ones,

Greetings,

This Saturday (February 5, 2011) early morning around 6:00 AM, we left for l’Acul Jeanot area for our routine walk. When we got to the point we felt the urge to return, something was telling us to continue walking for a couple more minutes before taking the opposite direction.

A couple more minutes into our walk, we saw a young 22 year old man named Ben carried by a friend and accompanied by five people. Ben was looking awful sick and close to dying. He could not at all stand by himself. He spent the whole night with diarrhea due to cholera.  At the first sight, Kihomi started running ahead of the sick person to announce to Sister Suzette Nadi, a catholic lady Kihomi trained in CHE (Community Health and Evangelism) program. Nadi lives in the neighborhood and is in charge of dehydration treatment for cholera patients before they get to the health facility. Nadi quickly started preparing an oral serum.

While this CHE or heath agent lady was helping the sick young man drink the serum liquid, we ran ahead to get a motorcycle to transport him to the Ebenezer clinic. Half way back home, we met a motorcyclist to whom we paid US $ 2.50 to transport Ben to the clinic and Nadi went with them. A simple oral serum and a US $2.50 saved this young man’s life.

As Kihomi watched Nadi struggle to prepare the oral serum, she noticed that she lacked some supplies (materials) to make her caring ministry easier and faster. Kihomi invited Nadi to her home and equipped her with some jars, glasses  and other useful items.

Thank you for your support,

Dear Friends,

This is just one more story of how your support is making a difference in Haiti.  Kihomi knew immediately what this young man needed and where to get it.  Nzunga acted swiftly to get him to Ebenezer Clinic where Dr James and Nancy work, two more IM missionaries.  This clinic has one of lowest death rate of all the cholera clinics in Haiti.  All of it happened because of your support of missionaries and IM’s work.   The serum and supplies are part of your giving to the OGHS.  The clinic was part of our partnership with the Haitian Baptist Convention.  And of course Nzunga and Kihomi were there where they could spring in to action with the CHE lady Kihomi had trained.   YOU saved a life yesterday.   Now if we can get this ministry a vehicle we can save $2.50!!   (Currently we have collected $13,500 for the truck.)
