Dear Loved Ones,

Greeting. We are coming to ask you to be praying for the people of La Gonave, the island across from Port-au-Prince, the capital city.
I left my house on Thursday January 5, 2012 to go Montrouis where we will be having our National Conference in February, the first since the devastating earthquake. We met with women and church leaders, planned for the conference and on Saturday 8, we crossed the ocean for La Gonave.

We got to Anse-a-Galet which is like the capital city of the island. We were well received by all our church members. This city as well as most of this island, has some problems. It has not rained for months and the city is filled with dust. It was this dust that got me sick for some days. People here depend on Port-au-Prince to get their food. It takes US $ 24 to go to Port-au-Prince and back. You can imagine poor people having to spend that much money to cross to the capital to get food. For the whole time we were there, we only ate yams, bananas and meat. There is no green vegetable since it is impossible to garden.

Leaders planned for me to meet with women at four places where couple of churches gathered.

Many of the women on the Island there would like to attend the National Conference but can not afford to pay their participation and then pay the price of ferry to cross the ocean.

The most difficult part of this weeks visit was praying with a group of hurting people. More then half of them have lost their sons, daughters and relatives in the January 2010 earthquake. It was heartbreaking experience. How can I as pastor, mother and friend find the right words to address to God for our people?

Thank you for standing behind our ministries.

Prayer concerns:

Please pray for the rain to fall in La Gonave, specially in the city of Anse-A -Gallet
Pray for some financial assistance to help some women to attend the National Conference

Yours in Haiti

Kihomi Ngwemi

Kihomi is always on the move as her ministry covers all of Haiti.  This trip was especially tough as she got sick and spent 3 days in bed.  For her to be inactive for so long tells me she was really sick.  Always pray for our missionary’s health and safety as they work in very tough conditions.  The terrible roads, rivers that have to be forded, no rest stops, scarce sources of food and fuel make them plan carefully before setting out on a trip.  It is hard for us to imagine these conditions.  Yet their concern is for their hurting people who they attempt to comfort and encourage.

Your prayers and financial support is greatly appreciated.

In Him,
