Miss Katia
Dear Loved Ones,
Greeting and peace to all of you. Friday May 31 was our academic graduation
day. 115 students graduate from different schools: theology, agronomy, business
administration and fine arts. Among the speeches we heard that day one
was from Miss Innocent Katia Joice. She spoke on behalf of all the
students’ victims of January 2012 Haitian earthquake. Katia and many more like
her were forced to come and study at our Universite Chretienne du Nord d'Haiti
because many of the Haitian universities in the capital city of Port-au-Prince were
destroyed. Most of those students from the Port-au-Prince lost not only their schools
but also their parents. It was hard for them to study. Thanks to the financial
assistance from the International Ministries of the American Baptist Churches,
those students were able to find a place to stay and to study well.
In her speech, Miss Katia thanked Dr. Vic Gordon and Dr. Herb Roger who were
present at the graduation as representing the Board of International Ministries.
She was especially thankful for the financial assistance they all have
received which has allowed them to study and to graduate. She concluded her
speech by saying ''Tenant compte de la situation post-seisme d'Haiti qu est
toujours difficle, nous qui avons ete supportes par votre genereuse
contribution a nos etudes promettons de participer activement dans la
reconstruction du pays a tous les niveaux. Given the difficult
situation after the earthquake, we who have graciously received your generous
contribution to our studies promise to actively participate in the rebuilding
of the country at all levels.
Thank you the American Baptist Churches, the Board of International
Ministries and all those individuals who made these studies possible.
Yours in Haiti,
Nzunga & Kihomi
Dear Friends,
These new graduates are the hope and future of Haiti. Many made it to graduation day because of your support of Nzunga and Kihomi as well as International Ministries. Some of the support came from One Great Hour of Sharing. Thank You. Education is the answer to many of the problems in the 3rd world. It is too bad it could not be 1150 or 11500 students as the population of Haiti is in around 8 million. However these ones who made it are able to make many positive changes from the leadership and wisdom they have received from professors like Nzunga who urge them to make a difference by taking Jesus’ words seriously.
In His Peace,
