Dear Loved Ones,

Peace to each one of you. Over and over again as we visit churches, many people ask us if there is progress in Haiti especially since the earthquake. We always say that if there was no progress in Haiti, we would already have left the country because it would be a waste of our time, a waste of your prayers, a waste of your financial resources and a waste of your efforts.

Here are some examples among thousands. Tents cities and rubble are now things of the past. Many of those victims are now in permanent housing. Over one millions kids are attending schools on the expenses of the government. This is du jamais vue (a never seen) in Haiti. Many poor families are regularly receiving government assistance.

The infrastructure has greatly been improved. I once left my house at 4 AM for Port-au-Prince, the capital city, to be back at 4 PM. In the past it was a miracle to drive the 175 Miles and back in one single day. The airport in the second largest city of Cap-Haitien has been expanded to take on the big planes. Once the security equipment’s are set in place we will start flying directly from Cap to most of the major cities in the world.

At our university the deans of the schools of theology, of business administration, the dean of student affairs, and the academic dean of the entire university are the students we taught.

In many banks around the country many of those serving us there are our students. The young lady administrator of our Haitian Baptist newly created hospital is our former student. Another young lady is administrating the hospital in the city of Oboy. The administrator of hospital in Enery is our student. Schools and churches are filled with our former students pastoring or teaching. In the city of Gonaives, the president of Public University is our former student.

Now in our city of Cap-Haitien ones see a huge progress with the traffic lights and traffic signals.

Every day we are encouraged by what is going on.

THE PROGRESS OF HAITI IS TO BE SEEN IN THE INDIVIDUAL LIFE AND NOT IN THE GENERAL SENSE OF THE COUNTRY BECOMING PARIS OR ROME IN ONE DAY.

Thank you for supporting and praying for our country of Haiti.

Yours,

Nzunga & Kihomi

Dear Supporters,

I’m sure you think pictures of road signs strange!  I have been to Haiti many times and the only traffic control I saw was a light at the airport.  The green and yellow did not work and everyone ignored the red. Some areas are getting electricity 24/7.  Much is going on to not only rebuild infrastructure but to build it to today’s standards.  The roads look like our expressways.

Please pray the new president and can keep these improvements going and the people feel life will get better.  As Nzunga said Rome wasn’t built in a day, but continual improvement at the pace we have seen these last two years will do wonders to getting Haiti into the 21st century.

In His Name,

Dennis Shewell
