Dear Loved Ones,

May the peace of our Lord be with each one of you. We continue to praise God for your support of all kinds. Without your love, we would not be able to care for the Least of the poor.

One thing that tears our hearts is being unable to help when those poor who travel many miles hoping to get help from our eye clinic. This is the case of a 13 years old who is battling cancer that has changed her look. Somebody told her parents that if they took her to our eye clinic, we (the staff at the clinic) would be able to help her.

We are glad that people can refer to us those helpless cases. Even though we may not be able to assist them in the way they expect us to, we can sit down with them, talk to them,  listen to their  helpless cries and pray for them.

Cases like this one shakes us emotionally as parents, as care givers and as spiritual counselors.

Please be praying for all those parents with impossible cases like this one and our staff as they struggle trying to care for the poor.

Serving Him in Haiti

Nzunga & Kihomi

Dear Supporters,

This is why I could never be a missionary.  As a father of three and a grandfather of five, these pictures haunt me.  I asked Nzunga if we could do anything.  Is it just a matter of money but he said no.  There are no doctors or facilities in Haiti capable of helping.  To bring her to the USA would require a passport, visa and three Haitian doctors to certify that she could not be helped there.  A long, long road time wise.  Her cancer is just too far advanced.  She is going to die.

We love to send you stories of the lives changed by the work of Nzunga and Kihomi but we rarely have such a stark reminder that they have to stand by and watch cases like these.  They do help with prayer and counseling but it is a still gut wrenching experience that is all too common in the developing world.  30,000 children a day, a delivering mothers every minute.  Statistics we know but here is just one of the realities of these numbers.

Please pray for these terrible situations and those who get emotionally involved trying to help.  It is much different than a statistic.

With great sadness,
