Dear loved ones.

The Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer has become the most important day in the life of our Baptist churches in Haiti. In many churches women organize a week long activities of revival (teaching on different subjects of the Theme, sketches, concert…). When it comes to that day, which many choose a Sunday, women lead the whole church service.  Women leadership is something new in most of our churches. We praise God that many pastors and church leaders are becoming more open to women leadership.

The president of women in Juchereau Baptist Church planned the prayer day, invited many people from other churches but did not receive the day of prayer’s program yet. She called and sent her husband who came to Cap-Haitian to get the program for her church.

This year we had the privilege to honor the Baptist church of Darbone. Darbone was the epicenter of January 12, 2012 earthquake. Many families in this rural city get their survival support and their counseling in prayers organized by their different churches. Without this support, many people would have a real hard time coping with the loss of loved ones and of their belonging.

During the service the choirs sung about love which we all must demonstrate to one another. The preacher insisted on love as being the core of our Christian message. After the service the pastor had a special prayer service for those who needed special prayers, prayed for the sick people, for the Baptist women around the world and for the world in general. The service culminated in big reception of guests/visitors and church folks.

The engagement of women in church life has been very encouraging to everybody.

Please let us be praying that many more women will take the lead instead of waiting on men only.

Sincerely,

Kihomi

Dear Supporters,

This is a topic that resonates here as well, women’s role in the church.  It unfortunately isn’t settled here either.  I could never understand anyone wanting to discourage women who have gifts in leadership being denied.  But it is common.  Let us pray for these courageous ladies in Haiti and also for the women leaders here that they will not have to fight uphill battles to serve God.

Peace,

Dennis Shewell
