Dear Loved Ones,

Greeting. November 18 is a special date in the history of Haiti. This date commemorates the last battle between the Haitian army and the Napoleon army, the battle that led to the independence of Haiti in 1804. This year the president of the country and his government officials were in our city of Cap-Haitian where we have the monuments to the fallen hero.

Kihomi celebrated this Remembrance Day by having some of the girls she mentors over to share clothes, shoes and school supplies she got from friends in the States.

In talking to them I overheard her say: "the way your heroic ancestors won against the French army, it is with that same determination, that same courage and that same ambition you are going to win over your studies. You are now fighting poverty, misery, ignorance. You have nobody else to blame if you don't succeed".

Thank you for being behind our ministry to bring some change in Haiti.

In Haiti,

Nzunga & Kihomi

Dear Supporters,

Kihomi has been trying to teach me a Creole phase that means “not my fault” because she hears it so much in Haiti.  We talk a lot about the material things that the poor do not have, which is a big problem.  However the way poverty crushes the soul so that people believe they are doomed and there is nothing they can do about it is much worse.  Kihomi’s and Nzunga’s mentoring always is fighting this attitude and trying to convince them they can be successful if they apply themselves.  Gaining a college degree is one thing that changes that attitude even if jobs are hard to find after school.  They can always fall back on the fact that they tackled a tough job and made it.  For many this is a big turning point in their life.

Let’s join Nzunga and Kihomi praying that the “I can’t” of Haiti can be replaced with “I can”.  Also pray that the resources for the brightest and best will be available for them to get an education.

Blessings,
