Greeting. This Wednesday April 22, 2015 was devoted to meeting with the coordinator of Canada Water project in Haiti to discuss the possibility of patterning with their ministry in order to better service our different communities.

The meeting atmosphere was very relaxed since she is a long time friend. She explained to us how they work to provide clean water in the communities: the cost, the policy and the end result.

While talking, it become clear that Kihomi will be an important asset to their ministry of providing water. They will dig well, place the pump and Kihomi will step in to teach about health education (community health). The coordinator was relief to realize that Kihomi can help them since she has always to pay an outsider to teach community health for her.

Please be praying as we are looking ways to team with the people who are helping communities.

Dear Friends,

 

The lack of clean water kills more people each year than all the wars and natural disasters combined.  Haiti has a low life expectancy in part because of all the infant and young child deaths due to this problem.  Nzunga has had some success with hand dug wells but they can only be dug where the water is fairly shallow and there is no rocky soil.  Even then these shallow wells are prone to contamination after heavy rains.   He has been researching ways to drill deeper wells inexpensively including buying our own drill rig.  However they are very expensive and finding water is part science and part art.  If we can find a way to partner with Lifewater Canada we may be able to drill wells for out-of-pocket costs only.  That is the costs we would spend at each well even if we had our own equipment i.e. pump, well casing, well cap, etc.   We are only b at the beginning stage of this approach but it seems promising.  Maintaining wells once drilled is also a problem.  The plan would be to drill them on HBC property where Nzunga has some influence with the pastor to solve this problem.  Also LifeWater Canada also is committed to keeping them maintained. 

 

Please pray that we can reach a acceptable agreement to get this program going a provide safe water in areas where there is none.
