Dear Loved Ones,
Greeting. I once was asked about what gives us the joy of working in Haiti all these years. A question like this does not have one answer but multiple ones.
Getting involved in the life of people is the most rewarding experience one can have in life. Here is the case.
One afternoon around 5 PM while we were resting after a long day at the eye clinic in Cap-Haitian, we hear a knock at the door. As it is our habit we went to open the door without asking who it was.
We were amazed to see the small girl and her brother. We invited them in and had them sit down. They did not come to ask or to beg for anything. We asked them about their family. After a while, the small girl opened the bag and handed us a plastic bowl. What a treat! 4 real organic eggs, home raised chicken and a bar of soap.
All we did for the girl was to connect her to her Compassion international sponsor. That act has started a long lasting friendship with her family.
Their gift was like a magic that wiped away our fatigue in a minute. Special treats like this do not come easily. They show a high degree of love, trust and admiration.
We don’t think that it is everybody in the world who gets these special expressions of love. It is not their poor situation that counts but how much they express their love and gratitude that counts.
Small acts like this one keeps us on mission field more than anything money can buy.
Thank you for partnering with us to make impact in the life of the small one like these.
In Haiti,
Nzunga & Kihomi
