Dear Loved Ones,

Greetings. The Bible writes this: Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

In our village, as well in many poor nations, the training starts early in life. This is one reason they want many children so that they can help around the house and help parents when they have no way to care for themselves.

When visiting some families this Saturday September 19, 2015, I was happily surprised to find the three guys washing their own clothes. When I asked if they know what they were doing, they all said loudly that they wash themselves their clothes. What a joy! I checked with family members who testify to the kids’ early training.

To encourage them Kihomi gave each of them a toy and a short pant. They will receive notes books and pen on Monday, the school day.

Scenes like this one encourages us to struggle with those struggling and to rejoice with those rejoicing.

Dear Friends,

The reality of life is learned early in Haiti.  Everyone has to help the family survive.  Many things we take for granite are hard time consuming work for them.  Need water; some one has to walk with a bucket to the nearest source and it may not be clean.  Want to cook; a charcoal fire needs to be built.  Want light at night; kerosene has to be purchased and lamps maintained.  Despite living in dirt floor houses with no electricity or running water they try their best to keep things neat and clean.  You will see ladies sweeping the street with palm leaf brooms.  Ironing clothes with charcoal heated irons.  And when they come to church they are wearing the whitest white clothes you know were washed in the river.  The service with be joyful and full of life.  You can’t help but admire their effort in the face of such poverty.  We can rejoice that Nzunga and Kihomi are there bringing some unexpected joy into their lives plus support and encouragement.
