Etienne Marckenson with computers
Dear Loved Ones,
Greeting. Come with us while I introduce to you the young Etienne Marckenson, a third year agriculture student at our university in Limbe. I had Marckenson in his freshman year in my Orientation to the University Life class.
I challenged the students to use their brain, to create something for themselves and for other people, to be useful to themselves and to others. Almost three years now, Marckenson went on to create an organization called OJPH, Organisation des Jeunes Patriotes Haitiens (the Organization of Young Haitian patriots). Its has 35 students already.
The objective is to teach young Haitians the computer skills and how to make cleaning products. Those with some degree of education can largely benefit from the computer skills while uneducated can make cleaning products to sell. To back up his efforts, we gave him two computers that will greatly enhance the service his organization is rendering to the nation.
This is the fruit of your love, your efforts, your sacrificial giving and your prayers. We say Thank You.
Thank you for standing by our sides.
Yours in Haiti

Dear Friends,
This is exciting news for two reasons. First after decades of struggling to survive doing things to help others does not come naturally for Haitians. Taking care of yourself and your family is upmost. Secondly the culture is to some degree anti entrepreneurship. Collage grads wear nice shirts and ties and expect to manage something but not get their hands dirty. Here is a young man using his education to help others develop a business and is including the poor outside the university. This is exceptional that he had taken Nzunga’s encouragement to heart.
Blessings,
Dennis Shewell
