Trained leaders serving today

Dear Loved Ones,

Greeting from our loved Haiti. The university opened officially on Monday Sept. 8 with its spiritual service. The president presented the new team to head up the different departments of the entire institution.

The most interesting dynamic is to observe our own students becoming our new leaders now.

The dean of the school of theology, Pastor Monel Jules was my first student when we arrived in Haiti in 1998. I helped him type his thesis project on my computer. Then I taught him in his master program. Now he is about to defend his Doctor of Ministry thesis at Bakke Graduate University.

The vice president of the academic affairs, Pastor Ducky Charles is another Doctor of Ministry candidate at Bakke with Monel. They are good friends and were classmates in their bachelor and master degrees. This means that he also was my student. The three of us have coauthored a book on Haiti and Congo ( Dialogue des cousins: Haiti-Congo) as part of their learning to write books.

The dean of business administration, Pastor Obene Deshommes is also a former student of mine. He got his master degree in Canada. The vice dean of business, Mrs. Wilnose Jean Gilles, is also our own student. I was part of the jury that questioned her thesis project.

My own assistant teacher for four years now, Pastor Henri Claude Telusma has been nominated the academic secretary for the school of the theology. I will be one of three jury members questioning his Master of Divinity thesis on Oct. 17.

A Creole proverb says “ bourik fe peti pou do l ka poze” -- a donkey makes babies so that its back can rest. Now we have arrived to the point that we can start seeing the fruit of our efforts. So we are working ourselves out of job. Otherwise we have made disciples.

This year we have about 350 students in the four schools: theology, business, agriculture and Fine Arts.

How could we be able to train these young leaders of today, if you were not behind us backing us with your spiritual gift of prayers and material means? Because you took good care us, we are able to give ourselves fully to equipping the Haitian leaders of today and tomorrow.  In 1998, when I started teaching here, it was difficult then to imagine that I was standing and teaching academic authorities of the 2008 Haiti.

Praises be to God who uses us in His Kingdom in Haiti.

World Mission Offering is the way you contribute to training our leaders here.

Yours,

Nzunga & Kihomi
