Hearing the call, changing the hearts!

The experience of sharing with my brothers and sisters at Chiapas was one of much growth and affirmation in a God of love, justice and peace. Responding to God’s call and visiting these Mayan communities allowed me to live with my brothers and sisters in love. Each community dinner, every worship service, every conversation with the children and the young showed me the joy of belonging and service. It deepened my view of the brotherhood/sisterhood in Christ, of true hospitality and also of the daily struggle to reach the abundant life in Jesus.

The experience at the youth camp was an opportunity to share with Mayan youth from diverse communities the challenge and call of the Lord to transform our reality in Chiapas, in their communities and in Puerto Rico. On the other hand, it was an honor for me to participate in the panel discussing the challenges that the youth faced to build peace. In this panel participated very skilled people such as: Eleazar Perez, Guillermo Villaseñor and Cristina Larrea.

In this wide space for reflection we analyzed unemployment, poor access to education, government abusive measures, the economic system that marginalizes and oppresses indigenous communities, etc. All of these are factors affecting the construction of peace, resulting in violence and limiting the abundant life people yearn for in Jesus Christ.

This experience prompted me to study theology at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico and set me on the work that needs to be done in the churches to educate toward missions. I heard the call of God to deepen our theological reflection and frame it in the social and economic needs of the country or place where we become actors/actresses of the good will of God for all creation.

Sharing with my Mayan brothers/sisters made ??me see the Lord in new ways! I saw God’s simplicity and grandeur, but also the Spirit’s amazing and persistent call to all to build a different world!

Este esel último de los testimonios de las tres hermanas que compartieron con nosotos e el campamento anual de juventud maya. ¡Disfrútenlo!

¡Oyendo el llamado, cambiando el corazón! "Habla que tu siervo escucha" 1 Sam 3:10b

La experiencia de compartir con mis hermanos chiapanecos fue una de mucho crecimiento y afirmación en un Dios de amor, justicia y paz. La visita a las comunidades me permitió vivir en amor con mis hermanos y hermanas. Cada cena en comunidad, cada culto, cada conversación con los niños/as y jóvenes me mostraron la alegría de pertenecer y de servir. Profundizó mi visión de lo que significa hermandad, hospitalidad y la lucha diaria por una vida abundate y plena en Jesús.

La vivencia en el campamento con los jóvenes mayas de diversas comunidades fue una oportunidad de compartir con ellos el reto y llamado del Señor para que transformemos tanto la realidad de Chiapas y sus comunidades como la de Puerto Rico. Por otro lado, fue un honor para mí participar del panel que discutió los retos de la juventud para construir la paz. En este panel participaron personas muy capacitadas en esta temática tales como: Eleazar Perez Encino, Gullermo Villaseñor y Cristina Larrea.

En este espacio de reflexión amplia se analizó como el desempleo, el poco acceso a la educación, las medidas abusivas del gobierno, y el sistema económico que margina y oprime a las comunidades indígenas, etc., son factores que afectan la construcción de a paz y de la vida abundante en Jesucristo.

Esta experiencia me impulsó a estudiar teología en el Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico y me afirmó en el trabajo que urge hacer en las iglesias para educar hacia la misión. Escuché el llamado de Dios de profundizar en una reflexión teológica  enmarcada en las realidades sociales y económicas especificas del país o lugar donde seamos actores/actrices de la buena voluntad de Dios para toda su creación.

Compartir con mis hermanos/as mayas me permitió ver al Señor de nueva cuenta. ¡Ví a Dios en su sencillez y grandeza, pero también el persistente y extraordinario llamado del Espíritu a todos/as para construir un mundo diferente!
